Barring a media smear campaign (and she's already blocked one of those) Theresa May looks nailed on to be the new PM for us. A pro-EU MP who will not offer a guarantee that free-movement will be stopped when we leave the EU. Why not just keep Cameron if we are gonna appoint this mess of a woman to replace him?
Labour leaders are chosen by a minority of Labour supporters. (This by the way applies to every party I know). This minority, Members of the Party, tend to be the activists. At local level the knockers on doors, the infantry. These tend to be left wing idealists usually with an active social conscience and embarrassingly well meaning. Then come the Unions. Those who are Union Members will know how democratic their particular organisation is. Mostly though there is a degree of apathy which means again that the left wing activist's have their way. Then the MP's get to vote. They want to be re-elected, so, whatever their conscience says, in public at least, they tend to be 'middle of the road'. Some MP's though are very left wing. Mr C was one and as such he appealed to Party Members and Unions but NOT M.P's. As they had just lost an Election, I suspect that the activists thought that they had nothing to lose by electing a 'genuine socialist'. Despite everything that happened over the past few days nothing has changed. THE PUBLIC still wants a 'middle of the road' government. It looks as if The Labour Party members and the Unions are reluctant to let them have the chance of getting one. And when you look at the potential candidates, which of them would you pick to either lead the opposition OR, if it came to it, carry the country forward once we are free of the EU?
Out of all the candidates we have, TM is by far and away the best shout. She will get the best deals for us globally and I'd personally be more relaxed about Brexit if she is in charge. She will be getting my vote that's for sure. Can't keep Cameron. He wants to leave!
May stated she wants to be the new Thatcher..Thatcher was the most divisive leader we have ever had in this country..I never want to see anyone like her as leader in my lifetime..
Labour will be shot to pieces if Angela Eagle gets in. Plus she looks like a slightly better groomed (only slightly) female version of Boris! sick and tired of seeing the establishment target Corbyn too. He is very much a progressive candidate that has much of the Labour membership behind him. He would foster real change (even if I don't agree with all of it) and make a difference for the country. Not necessarily for himself!
It's going to take a Thatcher to sort this mess out mate. She is also best place to unite the country. IMOOC.
QWOP, you would want Theresa May, she is a 'remainer' I don't trust her and believe it should be somebody who believes in the leave vote, to take us out of the EU.
Yes and no. Her being a remainer stops us from being a single policy party. While we need to sort out this EU stuff, we have other things going on as well. She would also obliterate whoever labour put in against her at the next election too. The only other person id consider is Leadsome (a staunch Brexiter). Again she is someone who would also be good on other fronts. She just doesn't seem as strong as May to me. Gove and Hunt are no goes for me. Fox is just "meh". May and Leadsome are Barcelona and Real Madrid while the rest are Sunderland and Newcastle
She's already said that the vote was out so out it is, that there's no turning back from the referendum result. I've got more time for May than that Gove. She's a tough cookie and won't take any **** from the europeans. I also think Osborne's immediate statement of abandoning the deficit plan is his way of staying onside with May. He'll know what her view has been in the cabinet the last 4-5 years on that. The other 3 don't really have a shout unless there are backroom deals made for a compromise leader.
As far as I'm concerned all Tories are naturally all for the wealthy and to hell with everyone else, and although May is an accomplished orator, she is no different to the rest of her ilk..
And all labour supporters are vegans who go around making daisy chains and sing kum bah yah to each other.
I get a vote in the Tory leadership election Which is interesting as three quid got me a vote in the Labour leadership election
The Tory party always have and always will be the party that are funded by and look after the interests of the wealthy. The social security of those less fortunate have never been high on their agenda and are generally regarded as a hindrance..
