Difficult to answer just one. There are different types of comedy/comedian. For us olduns Dave Allan was brilliant the way he presented things. Billy Connolly, not jokes but talking about life. Tim Vine, bloody stupid one liners but clean no swearing. A latter day Ken Dodd. A lot of the Mock the week cast are clever comedians. Milton Jones. Totally off the wall and he's jokes dont always come off but some of his quips are superb.
No favourite's for this old brown dog, Still crack up at Charlie chaplin, laurel&hardy, keystonecops. Used to like jasper carrot, dave allen, benny hill, the big yin from anderston.
Billy Connolly has been in the business over 30 years & still comes up with new material which is where a lot of them fail. Peter Kay being one. As Gil said, Billy doesn't tell jokes, he just talks about life.
Bill hicks, Don rickles, Billy Connelly, Ken dodd ( I saw him Sunderland empire 1998, 4 hours and my legs seized up !) Johnathon winters, Robin Williams, Les dawson, Benny hill, Frankie howard, Max wall, the list goes on.
The lady who's just sadly died deserves a mention, Caroline Aherne Very clever and very nice person by all accounts. RIP
Depends how you want to define comedian. Ben Elton for me. Why? Young Ones and Blackadder. Which in turn means I'm also big fan of Rik Mayall and Richard Curtis.
Mrs Merton to Debbie Magee... "So what was it that first attracted you to the millionaire Paul Daniels? R.I.P Caroline Aherne, thank you for making me laugh and cry.
Genuinely sad to hear this news. A local lass, closer to my age and liked her stuff, Mrs Merton, royal family.
Hadn't realised she died. ****. RIP. Talented women who I though was always held back by her writing partner Craig Cash who I think is ****.
Just back from the village pub, after a great afternoon with my youngest, playing golf at Wyboston GC. I don't know why, but hearing Caroline Aherne has died, aged 52, has really knocked me for six.
