Seems to me that people are just upset that Hull City writeups in the HDM don't Spaff 10/10's all over the page before the editor walks away from the crumpled page to find a kleenex before hitting the print button. The last few pages haven't explained whatsoever why some City fans feel the need to knock the rugby teams other than a few years ago a few FC fans tried it on with a bit of big headed banter. Just get over it maybe? As for the bias... Just get over it maybe?
Perhaps it was assumed that people were bright enough to realise why? Local media encourage three local clubs in a smallish and far from wealthy city, who are all fighting for the money and backing of the public. However two clubs' achievements and doings are measured on a different and more lenient scale than the other one. This daily delusional drip drip encourages the undecided and informed punters/businesses to back the RL clubs who seem to achieve 'greater things' in a sphere of seemingly exciting and constantly entertaining matches. Outcome: we get less support and less sponsorship. Three clubs in a 250,000 city is a tight fit. And I haven't even mentioned the ****ish fans who back their local RL team and anyone but their local football team when it comes to choosing a favourite team from the world's most popular sport.....
OR the owners, CEO's communication officers of the rugby clubs get on well with the local media, understanding that they need each other. Whereas our owners have fallen out with everyone except the Yorkshire Post.
Funny you should pick the YP as an example when it happens to be incredibly biased in its coverage of Leeds (both rugby and football) compared to any other area.
In terms of quantity of coverage or positivity? I find neither- and I've been reading it since the days of Terry Brindle and Barry Foster.
Some I know that follow both codes of football, say that they see more off field trouble at rugby than they see at football. You wouldn't think that from press reports.
That's something that pisses off the football correspondent, but there's nothing he can do about it, they're not sport stories.
