    I'm firmly neutral on this.

He'll go to one of Villa, Everton, Arsenal or Spurs I reckon.

Newcastle are a mess in my opinion. Run by that clown of an owner. Pardew for first managerial sacking I reckon.

    http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11701_7076344,00.html

Skysports.com understands Arsenal, Tottenham and Stoke have made enquiries about Newcastle United midfielder Joey Barton.

Barton has been made available for transfer by The Magpies after the board's patience finally snapped following his fresh criticism.

Newcastle have confirmed the controversial midfielder can be signed on a free transfer, meaning the club are looking to offload his services as quickly as possible.

Despite the 28-year-old's past, a number of big-name clubs are keen on acquiring his services, with Arsenal, Spurs and Stoke all interested.

    Talent

Meanwhile, Bolton manager Owen Coyle was quizzed on whether he would like to bring Barton to the Reebok and while he confirmed the midfielder is a talent, he stopped short on confirming his intent.

"He's a very talented player. We know that," Coyle told Sky Sports News.

"There's no doubt Joey will have very attractive offers because he's a talented player.

"We'll continue to bring the right players to football club. Hopefully I can have one or two new faces, ideally before the QPR game, but certainly before the end of the transfer window.

"Every manager is in the same boat. We're trying to improve our squads and trying to do the best business we can for our clubs."

Might surprise a few of you Stokie's but I would give the guy a chance, he's a winner, can pass, good shot and he's better than we have right now.
NOT my first choice but if he's going at a reasonable fee! Why not. If it didn't work out, look at what T.P. did with Tuncay and my heart say's no thanks.
    That's done with.
One the other hand, if he improved us as a team, yes we could do a lot worse.

Most 3 clubs looking at him, Arsenal, Tottenham and Stoke. Tony Pulis aims to have a team that works well together. Every clubs Barton has been to he has caused trouble. I really doubt he will join Stoke.
He might join Arsenal as back-up just in case Fabregas leaves as Barca has now bidded £36m

  7. I'd have him in the team, cracking player, touch of quality and to hell with his past.

After the stick he got us when we thrashed them 4-0, not sure he's going to feel homely at the Brit.

If he wants to play football week in week out, do you think Arsenal or Spurs is really an option? Putting his past to one side, my only concern would be that he may not be the same type of player within our structure. I dont like to pre judge but TP does have a history of throwing his toys out of the pram when he plays a creative player in his reigid formations, however, I do feel that Barton is a disciplined midfielder (position wise!) and wouldnt wonder like Tunny did!

I think he will join Arsenal, if they are serious about him. Looks like Fabregas will join Barca and with Denilson out on loan they need cover or an actual first team player

People what the **** does players personal lives have to do with playing for Stoke City,
If we were offered Rooney, Crouch, Giggs & Terry, you would say NO because they ****ed about with other women? Think the answer to that would be ****ING YES LETS SIGN EM ALL.

How do you lot know for real at your place of work, that someone you trust & have total faith in, 3 years before they joined your company got done for ABH against their partner? He/She has now been by your side for over 4 years working side by side with you, then lets slip on a night at the pub, ooohh........ once i got sent to jail for 3 months for battering my partner, but since being employed with you as never ever put a foot wrong, would you then discriminate against said person for something that was done in the past?

Get a ****ing grip people, Joey Barton would be 1 MASSIVE UPGRADE on OUR C/M.

How many supporters still go to the Brit now, who in the late 70's/early 80's dragged our name through ****ing hell, but now have changed & love where we are?

Never judge a book by it's cover, Joey Barton would be ****ing fantastic for SCFC.

    Rant Over

Ere we go, the biggest thug ever to play for Stoke was Eddie Clamp, closely followed by Maurice Setters, BUT their violence was conducted ON the field AND they were OUR thugs!!

As said before, morally no, pragmatically yes

Oh by the by Huthy, I would be VERY concerned about the 'guy' next to me if he had been busted for stubbing a cigar out in a workmates EYE <yikes>

I agree Huthy, but putting your lit cigar out in the eye of a team mate is a little pats team bonding for me mate! Shaggin someones Mrs. is one thing, trying to mame somebody is a totally different ball game! However mate, your right, becasue the famous Leeds trio seem to be able to leave their past behind them!

Oldnickyb - You forgot to include Eddie Stuart as a founder member of the Waddington Wall which so ably superseded by Denis Smith and Alan Bloor in our great days of the late 60's and early 70's. All of them tough guys at the heart of our defence.

Potts - great to hear that you've been resurrected. It must have been interesting reading your obituaries. Keep bouncing those tennis balls and give the boys in red and white a cheer from me. I'll be watching courtesy of the internet streams in front of my coal fire. Seems that you've got a bit of a heatwave down in England. Up here it's cold, wet, miserable and thoroughly " dreich "
