The exodus of Sunderland’s dead-wood is underway, with Santiago Vergini due to return to Argentina by Monday, while Espanyol are eyeing Jordi Gomez. The seven surplus-to-requirements players on Sunderland’s books are a major issue for Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce, with Vergini, Gomez, Will Buckley, Liam Bridcutt, Charis Mavrias, Adam Matthews and Emanuele Giaccherini’s collective wages totalling around £150,000 a week. Allardyce needs those funds to reinvest in his playing squad, while any transfer fees recouped would supplement his kitty for summer reinforcements. But Sunderland are making progress, with Vergini due to be the first out of the door, while Gomez might not be far behind the Argentine international. Sunderland have agreed a fee with Boca Juniors – thought to be around the £1.5million mark – for Vergini, with no substance to reports in Argentina that the player himself has ‘bought out’ the remaining 12 months of his contract at the Stadium of Light. Vergini is expected back in his homeland this week and his three-year contract at Boca should be confirmed by Monday, in order for him to be registered for the Copa Libertadores – the South American version of the Champions League. Boca president Daniel Angelici said: “With Vergini, we’re all settled. We’re just waiting for the player to come. “But there is an agreement on the transfer and his contract. We think we will finalise it on Monday.” Read more: http://www.sunderlandecho.com/sport...nterest-in-midfielder-1-7988488#ixzz4D2bkvtmp
I wonder if our new CE been able to faciliate any of these I feel big things are about to develope ........only problem is the next England managerIan appointment - not BSA ....
It could be that Boca can't afford him or his wages but it looks like he failed the medical according to this. http://www.infobae.com/playfutbol/p...ision-medica-y-se-complico-su-llegada-a-boca/ Sounds like another Gino Peruzzi saga ( who now plays for Boca)
I think Boca will still take him with the failed medical, they're desperate for him, have been for a few seasons. I reckon they'll just do further tests to make sure the injury isn't anything permanent
Well their club doctor failing his medical....well if only they wanted to pay us less for a player we need to get rid of anyway.....what a coincidence.......
Vergini signs for Boca - no change to the contract http://www.tycsports.com/futbol/fin-de-la-novela-vergini-firmo-con-boca
I'll take your word for it, for all I know that's an article talking about Vergini's arrest for punching a dolphin at his local Seaworld. That's a couple we've got rid of now, good stuff.
I said the 'failed medical' wouldn't stop their pursuit. They've after him the whole time he's been here. Hope we didn't lower our price for them though
We didn't. Boca wanted to change the contract based on performance/appearances but have now agreed to the original 3 year deal - even though he failed the medical due to an old achilles injury.
Here's your confirmation. Well played sir. http://www.safc.com/news/team-news/2016/july/vergini-departs
