There is no point signing players for the sake of it, if we cant find anyone better than what is already here then I hope we dont bother.

We made that mistake with Pienaar.

Pienaar was available for a knock-down price and he's still decent back-up, CB.
He struggled with injuries last season, but he's a pretty good player.

People would prefer to see Kranjcar than him though, which I think is a little unfair.
I'd like to see both of them used in the Europa League and domestic cups, with the Croatian adopting the van der Vaart role and Pienaar playing on the left and cutting in, which would allow Rose to overlap from left-back.

I'd agree with PNP. Pienaar was a gimme at the price. A good, proven, premiership player.

Pienaar can play CM as well. He has played in that role for South Africa before and i dont mind seeing him play that role again in the Cup matches or as back up.

I'm sure there are countless strikers available that are better than our current strikeforce.
The problem is that Harry rates Crouch and Defoe far too highly to see that they need to be replaced.

The problem is identifying which of the countless strikers who seem to be better than our current ones, actually are better.

I have a suspicion that if we had Rossi and Vucinic up front we would be salivating at the thought of signing Defoe and Crouch.

Tbh I would prefer a brand new face up front rather than Drogba or Zamora etc. We have reportedly put in a bid for an Italian who has scored 46 in 106 which isn't bad by today's standards. The difference is £3mill which is peanuts again by today's standards.

SC ITK is a load of old bollocks.
    Absolute, utter attention seeking fantasy.

As soon as I heard about this money problem, a last minute bargain hunt was always on the cards...if anyone hasn't got it yet, we will not smashing our record signing fee this window so forget everyone with a 25- 30m price tag.

It's not about better, but about more appropriate for our system, in my opinion.
None of our current strikers works well in the lone role.

OK, so are there any cut-price strikers out there who would work well in our current system?

    No idea, unfortunately.
You'd hope that Levy, Redknapp and our scouts would, though! <laugh>

If we could bring in Llorente and ship out a couple (Dos Santos, Keane?), then the loss wouldn't be too great.
That would still leave us with the problem of what to do with the rest of them and who to play if/when Llorente wasn't available.
