Oh come on. A simple tap in! Noticed how FLT had left this one open for someone - just a question of who and when. On this goalie.... Yes, FF is bloody good, so there is bound to be a drop in standard. But this guy seemed only OK if the ball wasn't aimed between the posts and under the bar! Maybe I missed his better games.
Me too. I lost all faith in Stek after the pool cup game, (though I suppose any keeper can have one nightmare game). He's not in the same class as Forster though, not even close imo.
Didn't get it done in the end as she was busy writing. I had a listen to some of the soundtrack online though - kinda see what you mean, though we're taking a slightly different tack with the stuff that's being done at the moment!
I thought Stekelenburg was alright. Decent backup, and could probably start for some PL sides. A bit sad to see him go as we now need a second keeper, but I can also understand why he left. He will probably get paid more at Everton, and while he is likely going to be their backup the position is unsettled so he will at least get a better chance to fight for a starting spot. You never know when a transfer might go awry, and they'd do well to bring in someone as good as Forster anyway. But in the end, I think it works out for us too. Gazzaniga seems to have improved a bit, so maybe he is good enough backup now. If not, it's our opportunity to sign our future #1. Always good to have young players in the pipeline when you can, instead of aged vets just hanging about not really playing, but not really adding to the future either.
Were we not rumoured to be looking at the Northern Irish lad, or was that just every man and his dog because he had a good tournament?
I hope not. Did he really have a good tournament or was it mostly down to his own SKD v Leeds moment in the Germany game? I think every goalkeeper is due one of those during his career and it just so happens that his came on one of the biggest stages. I mean, he wasn't released by Hamilton at the end of last season for putting in great performances week after week.....
I agree, I just thought I read somewhere we were sniffing. I wonder if DTLW can fill us in on the progress of the young Southend keeper. Can't remember his name, but seemed highly regarded a season or two back??
Dan Bentley? Played the full season again this season, did pretty well and was a key man once again. He's walking away on a free this summer despite the club offering him contracts. He wasn't happy with the negotiations, but I won't go into the details of that on a public forum. Had approaches from Brentford, Bournemouth, Celtic, Leeds and Rangers last I spoke about his situation, at the back end of the season. He got back from a holiday in Jamaica with his missus last week so I suspect his future will be resolved soon enough.
Hmm, only 22 and already played nearly 150 games for Southend. Gazzaniga had only played 20 when he came here as a 20 year-old. Could be worth keeping an eye on.....
