We are thought to be after Amavi from Villa. No idea...probably a 2 + 2 = 5 story.

 

Apparently ITK seems to think we have made a enquiry into Robbie Brady.

 

Leicester set to sign him allegedly.

 

Signing Amavi makes a lot more sense if we are looking to play the wingback system we had at times last season, with Bertrand playing in a back three with Fonte and VVD (Yoshida and Gardos as back up). Looked a very comfotrable (and fluid) system on the few occasions we played it last year. Redmond and Tadic would fit very well into that system as well as 'wingers' who like to play more centrally and Cedric is far more of a wing back than a traditional rb. Just a thought.

 

We seemed to abandon that formation when Cuco took over as RB though if I remember correctly.

 

I wouldn't mind him personally, Solid yet unspectacular. Offers good versatility.

 

It could be why we seemed to be linked to quite a few strikers. Maybe saints want to play 2 uptop.

 

Or sign amavi, sell Targett? From what I have seen of Amavi, he is really, really good. Would be an upgrade (although harsh on young Targett who still has time on his side.)

 

I agree. And sadly for him I don't think his long term future is at saints.

In fact his InTheBox with Harry Reed is my favourite. Harry asking Tiggs his opinion about the chicken and the egg is incredible.

 

I rate Targett as well...Koeman didn't seem so fond though.

 

Would make very little sense, in my book, to appoint a manager (and seemingly rule out other managers) largely because of ability to coach and bring through youngsters and then sell one the brightest talents we have - especially in a season where we will need squad depth more than ever. I like Targett and hope he gets game time. Like Amavi a lot ,from the little I have seen of him. Think there is room for both and Bertrand tbh.

 

Plus next summer Bertrand will only have two years left on his contract, if we aren't offering him an improved deal. Get the replacement in early.

I see Amavi played for Nice, before Villa, so will be very well known to Puel, and may be the reason why we are being linked to him.

 

So, solid yet unspectacular, he loves entertaining football but he is also realistic. Does very well with academy players.
I hope his time here is not dictated by the players coming through, because I think that would be pretty unfair on him. Harrison is the only one who I see making a breakthrough this season. In saying that, there was no real opportunity for the youngsters last season, so they will all be doing their up-most to force their way into the fold.

I could see Targett possibly moving into the middle at CB or DM. He seems like a solid player in general but just lacks that bit of quickness to take on some of the trickier wingers.

 

Gonalons being linked on Saintweb as a VW replacement. Lyons captain and Vhampions League this year, so will be a tough one to persuade. Enter Claude.

 

Rather have Mendy. Plus he would be easier to get.
