ive just got back home from the SoL as my daughters were at the Beyoncé concert. They were asking me on the way back home about people being on the pitch and doesn't it wreck the grass? I laughed and told them that 'in my day' there was plenty of fans regularly on the pitch albeit not dancing! It got me thinking about matches I've been to where a pitch invasion has taken place. A couple of my favourites (purely down to results going our way) are the Milk Cup semi final 2nd leg away at Stamford Bridge and obviously the play-off game vs Mags. I remember invading the pitch last game of the season away at Forest too Anyone out there who enjoyed a pitch invasion or two ???
Gateshead v Grimsby, 2014, play off semi-final, International Stadium, Gateshead. The Heed won and hundreds of Heed fans invaded the pitch, including one in a sunderland top and one in a newcastle top........and yes, both were following the Heed! I couldn't be arsed to go on the pitch.
I was reading that when Darlo clinched promotion @ Whitby this season the gadgey on the tannoy begged away fans to refrain from invading the pitch as they had another home game in 3 days time... The final whistle went and 1000 fans celebrated on the pitch. It's a great feeling when you get the chance to do it. I haven't seen many 'mini' pitch invasions at SoL for a while... Eng vs Turkey prob the last?!
