I'm off the day my youngest starts university or sooner than that if she decides not to go to university. England is too expensive and too depressing.

I've told Mrs Stan and given her the option to come with me.

If you search you can get return flights to KL for £300. Living somewhere really interesting does make it worth the effort for people to visit and the time you spend is quality time. Both my kids are at Uni in the UK and we never see them, there is simply nothing for them to do where we live in Devon, but for a cheap Easyjet flight costing £34 they virtually live with us during the summer in Menorca.

It's not for the reason that in find it **** here I'd leave, far from it I live next to the sea in a lovely area with a good quality of life.
More curiosity with me, and I've got a good mate who lives in NZ who says it is a very high quality of life and I know from experience that it's a great lifestyle in Australia and I'd have loads of opportunities.

I don't find living in Britain **** though.

That said, Swansea City centre is an utter ****e hole and I never go there. That applies to most cities in Britain though. I'd never move back to Manchester and I love the place, I couldn't bear not being able to look out at water.

I want to look out at water in the sunshine. Mrs Stan regularly craps on about going on city holidays or skiing or theme parks but for me a holiday is being by the sea.

If I got such an offer, I'd off in an instant. No brainer.

I've been to KL a few times. Lovely place and the place is great to live in. The cost of living is much less than in the UK and the climate ...weel, it is raining here as I type, need I say more? For the cost of a small semi here, you'd get a nice fully furnished large detached or gorgeous apartment in a top residential area.

As to see family, air travel isn't that bad. £800 very six months would be trumped by all the money saved

    Lucky chap!!

You can see the river Irwell from where I grew up.

What more could you ask for?

The Danube doesn't have the Clifton balls bend for instance.

This is the S bend within the river where hundreds of old football's from all over the Lancashire area descend to swirl around in one mass.

    Beat that Budapest.

    This is balls bend.

Evidently minus the balls nowadays, bar one. (I actually googled balls bend Clifton and there's a ****ing photo of it!)

Same here - perfectly happy where we are now and the quality of life is outstanding. We tend to take two or three holidays a year (off to Netherlands this Friday, Tenerife April just gone, planning Finland for Xmas and Meribel in February half term - Scottish one not English one so it won't be expensive as ****) so not yet at the stage of thinking of moving to one place in Europe, or further afield.

I did visit both Oz and NZ after uni and there is a great quality of life out there too, although the weather thing is a bit overblown. I was in Melbourne in May and it was almost as cold as Scotland in November, and Sydney was a wash out. Average annual rainfall of Sydney is 1.5 times that of Manchester, even Brisbane gets more rain and most of that is right in the middle of summer. Surfing in a rain storm wasn't a huge amount of fun - certainly punctured some of the Australia bubble!

Lucky bastard if you've been to KL a few times and never got hit by a monsoon. Place was flooded one of the times I was there. It was one of the weirdest feelings I've had to be walking through knee high puddles that were warm as swimming pools. First and only time I've bought one of those ridiculous see through ponchos...
