I honestly do not think we will improve our league position, next season.
Not because of Puel but simply because I expect Arsenal, Spurs, City and United to remain top 6, with the inclusion of Chelsea and Liverpool, who have no European distraction. Add in the money laden Everton, and our dalliance in Europe, there is potential for us to be caught by teams such as Stoke, who came close, before dropping away, last season.
Top 10 will be good. Progressing to a semi final or final, in any of the cups will be a bonus.

I occasionally read the Echo website comments, and there are a handful of regular posters who still think we have been lucky to improve since the departure of Cortese.
They regularly predict we will fail, and just get angrier at our failure to comply with their desire to be proved right. They will be/are rubbing their hands at the thought that this will be that time.

I am not saying that Tom is anything like the posters I am citing here. Just responding to FLT's post.

    blimey.

poor guy hasn't even been officially announced and he is getting it in the ear.

If he is our new manager then that makes him a Saint and he has full backing from me.

Quite simple really. All you have to do is type: What percentage of 6071 is 346.? into Google and the top answer is a straightforward website: http://www.alcula.com/calculators/finance/percentage-calculator/

Then find the right question to put your numbers in [it's the second one] Answer: 5.69922582771 or 5.7% [<- there it is]

There you go. Even someone who can't get their head round percentages can find the answer very quickly if they use that computer thingy right in front of them. ;)

EDIT: Incidentally, I'm on 8.96%. I'm obviously not here for the likes. <devil>

I think West ham will be very good aswell next year as well, top half will surely be a good achievment in most peoples books? Or do people think we can maintain top 6?

Don't people have calculators any more: 346 divided by 6071, then multiply by 100 or press % button. And when I was at school you weren't even allowed calculators....now that was a pig.

The thing is the points margins are so small. I'd prefer to think about progress in these terms

Can we maintain our fantastic defensive record
Can we improve our goalscoring record (and spread goals out a bit more)
Can we introduce a youngster or two to first team football
Can we improve our cup performances and have a run in one of them (preferably Europa!)

I'd like to think the answer to all of those is yes, given a fair wind and some good signings.

You think that is a joke, but for my early years that was true. It was a while before small calculators came in. People in offices used comptometers (and the people who used them were called comptometer operators)....there endeth the lesson.
