Hoddle left Gazza at home in '98 and survived it. McLaren dropped Beckham and was slaughtered for it. It's no job for the faint-hearted but if the incumbent has strength of mind and can keep his head, then many things are possible. First and foremost it's a job for someone who is tactically adept and can be a little bit flexible. The days when Kevin Keegan would clap his hands and Terry McDermot and Derek Fazackerley reinacted Agincourt to gee up the players has passed.
Someone like Benitez or Bilic maybe?
The 'Old Man' retired to Eastbourne a good few years ago, so I get down there regularly. He turned out for the Thirds but he doesn't have the pace that he used to have, so the Second XI was a non-starter.
A couple of years ago one of my sisters (who is a mad keen Spur) was dating a player from NotSoMightyEastbourneBoro. Nice lad.

What a great point, a brilliant example of thinking outside the box although that is perhaps not the best analogy I could have used. It's some thinking inside the box that this current team needs, but very well said RWAEB.
I find it quite perplexing that the RFU (which is apparently equally filled with "toffs" and "out of touch"

Hoddle also got one of the most mature (and thought impossible) performances out of Gazza :
the 0-0 draw away in Italy. A demonstration of both the control and ruthlessness that can be

I like to think I’m full of ideas. Few dispute I’m full of something.
Rugby is less of a gravy train maybe? The England rugby team also had a greater humiliation than football team to be fair, though they had also had more 'success' recently too having beaten a few of the SH teams, been occasionally competitive in the 6N, and won the WC in 2003. But maybe there was more of a need felt for change.
Football team have been dire and rudderless for longer than that, though I think even less likely to enact any meaningless change as a result of that.

I do go and see Eastbourne Borough play when I can and taken my dad as well as he is a life-long Sutton fan. With Sutton up to the Vauxhall Conference (as it forever shall be called) will miss out on that fixture next year. Plan to take my little 'un to their games when he is old enough (just shy of his 1st birthday at the mo) as is a mate of mine who plans to take his to see the even less mighty Hastings Town. Hopefully steer him towards supporting Brighton & HA (I know, I know but we have more chance of actually getting to see them play). Borough not really been the same since the last of the Crabb brothers has gone (lost track of how many there were... 4?)
Anyway back on topic..... Hodgson is really a doddering imbecile isn't he.
The sad thing is that it was well known that Hodgson didn't know what he was doing after the last tournament, and even after the tournament before that. In fact there is not so much in his managerial record that supports his appointment in the first place! I'm kind of worried that the experience has tainted the Spurs lads, as I was during the season when Spurs players went away to England, I was hoping it wouldn't set them back! Hopefully a few weeks with Poch will sort them out before the season starts.
Ah, but you forget that The FA wouldn't have had to pay compensation for his services!

They know they are good players, but they were very much running on empty (Kane the most) .
What they need is as much rest as possible before August, and to be spared the Levy PR/marketing
trips to Oz etc.
