Growing up I forever saw him coming out of Barnard Castle betting shops. Loves a flutter does our Gatesy.

I remember playing Ipswich and their Dutch defender (I think it was Thijssen) had been giving Marco stick all game. Marco scored and the defender was right behind him and he flattened him with a reverse punch. At least he scored before he got sent off.

 

March was my idol.

I'll never forget an opening day goal at Norwich, one of my earliest away games in blazing sunshine.

Outside of the boot screamer edge of box, the whole stadium applauded. I've never managed to find a video of it anywhere online but anyone who seen it will remember it.

 

Aye he was some boy that Mars character, bit of a nutter by all accounts.

My missus first away game.... Glorious sunny day with Sunderland fans dancing in the stream just outside the train station!! And she thought she was going to Norich shopping !!!
