New Mills: 'Worst team in England' relegated please log in to view this image Manager Garry Brown is New Mills' fourth manager this season For a team dubbed "the worst in England", it was a fitting way to go out. A 9-0 hammering on Saturday relegated New Mills from the eighth-tier Northern Premier League Division One North. The Derbyshire club, who have a goal difference of -115, have not won a match all season and only managed two draws. Their league record reads; Played 35, lost 33, drawn two, scored 21 and conceded 136. Bottom of the league on two points, they are 26 points from safety with seven games left. And Aston Villa fans thought they had it bad... please log in to view this image
On the positive side their overall F/A is less than 4 a game and Colchester have conceded over 2 a game in their divvi - every season there are surprises 1-4 springs to mind of course and there was an 8-0 against Sunderland where sales of After Eights plummeted in that town after that result. So where do New Mills AFC go after this season
NWCL Premier Division, which they won in 2011. Their fans are, even as we speak, reaching for their road maps for next seasons trips to Abbey Hey, Atherton Collieries and Squires Gate.
Ashley Nadesan: Fleetwood Town sign Horley Town striker please log in to view this image Ashley Nadesan had been attracting interest from a number of Football League teams Fleetwood have signed Ashley Nadesan from non-league side Horley Town. The 21-year-old has scored 99 goals in two season with the Combined Counties Football League side, who play in the ninth tier. Nadesan had trials at Millwall and Norwich this season and worked at McDonald's for his main income aside from playing part-time football. "I'm buzzing. After all the speculation I'm so happy I've finally signed the contract," he told the club website. "Jamie Vardy is an inspiration with what he's done, people are trying to compare me to him but I don't want to put that pressure on myself - I'd rather be the first Ashley Nadesan." As Ides has said, should PFC scouts not be looking at players/prospects like these at non-league level ? We have succeeded in the past by buying both Guy Whittingham and Lee Bradbury out of the Army, and they did well enough for us.
So AFC Wimbledon beat Plymouth Argyle 2-0 at Wembley this afternoon in the play-off final. Second goal was a penalty from "The Beast" Akinfenwa, 11 minutes into injury time. Yes, 11 minutes of injury time !! Peter Hartley carried off on a stretcher after clashing with "The Beast". "The Beast" - that nickname should now be handed over to Jamille Matt - he fully deserves it to my mind Hard luck Argyle - another season in Divvy Two for you, but pleased for both ex-Pompey players Andy Barcham and in particular Paul Robinson.
According to an article on BBC Sport today:- Former high-ranking Fifa officials Sepp Blatter, Jerome Valcke and Markus Kattner awarded themselves pay rises and bonuses worth $80m (£55m) over five years, say Fifa lawyers. Football's governing body revealed the contracts of ex-president Blatter, fired ex-secretary general Valcke and sacked former finance director Kattner one day after a Swiss police raid. Its lawyers said there was evidence that the trio made "a coordinated effort" to "enrich themselves" between 2011 and 2015. Documents and electronic data were seized during Thursday's operation, which relates to investigations into Blatter and Valcke. Suspected of criminal mismanagement of Fifa money, Blatter and Valcke were banned for six and 12 years respectively by the governing body's ethics committee in February. Both deny wrongdoing. What a bunch of utter crooks (allegedly!) - scum of the earth. That money should have gone to grassroots football for the good of the game.
Yup loads of snouts in the trough in that organisation will it ever be totally cleared out or is corruption in sport endemic and will never be totally eradicated.
Russian supporters at Euro 2016 have risked the wrath of UEFA and possible expulsion from the competition after lighting a flare in their defeat against Slovakia. The Russian Football Assocation were warned by UEFA that they could be disqualified from the tournament if there was further crowd trouble inside the stadium following disturbances in their opening fixture against England. Denis Glushakov headed home with 10 minutes remaining to pull a goal back for the Russians after Vladimir Weiss and Marek Hamsik had given Slovakia a 2-0 lead. In celebration of the goal, Russian supporters lit a red flare, which is against UEFA's regulations. Let us hope they are banned. Mind you, perhaps Plymouth should be banned from the Football League for some stupid prats letting off two green flares in the Milton End during the Play-Off first leg at Fratton Park. Just saying.........
Nothing wrong with flares, imo. My only concern is the security (or lack of) in France, not the flares themselves.
Try telling that to the steward in the recent Croatia v Czech Republic game, where Croatian "fans" throw numerous flares onto the pitch, including one which went off in the face of a steward. That must have hurt a bit, don't you reckon ?.......
Well yes, that's idiotic... and should not be thrown on the pitch... It's not the flares which are bad, it's how they're used. Just let them off in the stand and it's all good.
To negate any problems involving flares they should not be there in the first place its a game of football ffs not November 5th.
Wales forward Gareth Bale, 26, will be given a "contract for life" at Real Madrid that will make him one of the highest-paid players in the world. (Daily Mail) I bet Christiano Ronaldo is happy for him......
National League side Wrexham have signed defender Nortei Nortey and midfielder Michael Bakare. Nortey, 21, is a product of Chelsea's Academy and joins Wrexham on a one-year-contract. He has played for Maidenhead United and Welling United since leaving Chelsea. # BBC Sport # Nortei Nortey ? Sounds like a cast name from a Carry On film, or a Frankie Howard exclamation............"Oooooh nortei nortey missus"
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36652412 Well done Wales for reaching the quarter finals at the Euros, BUT, what a disrespectful, childish way of reacting after England's defeat against Iceland. The majority of their players turn out for English teams in the Football League, and their captain Ashley Williams was born in Wolverhampton (he must own a Welsh Terrier to be eligible to play for Wales !) so they are most likely offending their English team mates as well. How classy. Good luck Friday evening against Belgium - cos they are going to most likely thrash you
Newcastle have paid Bournemouth £12 million for ex-Pompey academy player 26 year old winger Matt Ritchie, who hails from Gosport. To think our manager Steve Cotterill sold him to Swindon Town for £250,000 when he was a youngster, as he didn't think he was good enough to make the grade. What a plank.
Well, they beat Belgium, thanks to goals by Williams, Robson-Kanu and Vokes. (All English-born and one of them a Southampton lad). Agree with you about the disrespect though - imagine the furore if the situation were reversed.
Ninth-tier side Jarrow Roofing entertained Hartlepool in a pre-season friendly on Saturday, and had a rather unique excuse for failing to keep supporters up to date with how the second half was going... "Sorry for no updates during the game after half-time. The lad handling the twitter account had to go in goal!" The game finished 1-1 with vice chairman/social media man/goalkeeper Andy Hudson conceding after being summoned from the bench/pressbox.
Portsmouth displayed a proud "keep off the grass" sign before their season-opener with Carlisle, reading: "This pitch is one of only five fully natural playing surfaces remaining from the current 92 league clubs." The visitors shared it on Twitter.
I wonder who the other 4 are. To be fair, the pitch did look amazing on Saturday... and I'm no pitch expert
