So Lafferty accepts he has no future at Norwich. I feel for the guy, brought in by Hughton, as I recall - and his rare outings saw him mysteriously deployed wide left :emoticon-0112-wonde.
Totally ignored by Alex Neil (are you Becchio in disguise?) and frozen out of proceedings more and more the longer he stayed here. Good luck finding a new club KL - let's hope it's one where you a) get to play and b) get to play in a role familiar to you, none of this square pegs bollox <grr>

Wasn't he brought in by Neil Adams Cromer ?

I agree - never given the chance to show his potential (a la Becchio) and he is better off going somewhere (hopefully for a fee) where he can show his true worth (probably against us <yikes>)

First team coach Gary Holt has left the club by mutual consent!

If he's the player I think he is, he kind of made a name for himself earlier in the year and looked really good. I can't remember if it was him, or another young player at Bolton, who signed a longer contract with them essentially to boost his transfer fee, Bolton being resigned to losing him.

Another good youngster to put in the same category as the Murphy's, Toffolo and Maddison I suspect, and can come immediately into the first team as there's little competition up front. Whilst I like seeing us sign young players, there's a slight concern as to whether they can deliver over the course of a season. A couple of younger players but with 2-3 full seasons under their belt would be nice.

I think we will get more experienced players in as well, but they are likely to be Championship level rather than PL level. We could spend £8m on Gayle, or more than £12m on McCormack, but would they really cut it in the PL? It's a gamble, but if players like Maddison and Clough and our own young players as well can make the step up it pays off big-time towards promotion and beyond. IMO, Gayle and McCormack could be good in the Championship, but probably less good in the PL. I like the idea of building up a team of young players to fight for first-team places.

I'm not against that RER, but I'd also like to see at least stellar signings at both CB (2 if Klose leaves) and striker. I most certainly don't want the likes of McCormack or Gayle and appreciate that they're more likely to be Championship level.

Isn't this discussion better suited for late April 2017, when we see whether we have what it takes to make top six, minimum. Any talk of 'next time we're in the PL' until then is surely futile.
I want to see a squad equipped to achieve a top six (or better) this season or next - other bridges can be crossed as (and when <yikes>) we reach them <ok>

I think the argument against that is that if you sign championship players this summer, upon promotion you run into the same issues we had this time around where the squad needs major surgery in order to mount a survival bid. That way leads yo-yoing.

Now granted I'd much rather be in that position than staring at a second championship season, but the best (if hardest) option is to invest now in players who can do a job now and develop to Prem standard. Clearly with our limited funds though that's going to mean taking gambles on players who might not be good enough now and might never be good enough, hence I'd like to see a mix of youth and experience brought in.

I can understand both sides of this. As Cromer says, our immediate objective is promotion to the PL. I agree with that, but as DH says, if we recruit competent Championship players, we would then have a squad of mostly Championship players on long contracts going into the PL. We found it difficult enough to attract players who would improve our squad when we were in the PL. IMO, we do need another experienced striker and probably another winger to replace Redmond, but then it depends on whoever else leaves. PL loans are one avenue, but that holds it's own possible pitfalls in terms of commitment. It's not an easy equation to work out whichever way we go.

Football fans are a strange breed, one minute they whinge that we should do a "Leicester" and sign someone like Vardy from the lower leagues, then they whinge about signing Zac Clough because he's only from League 1 Bolton! <doh>

I've not actually seen anyone "whinge" about this particular acquisition, if it occurs.
Question whether the outlay on a player of that age in that position is a priority, maybe, but that's all.
I clearly need to pay more attention <ok>
