Seen some bad England performancestors over the years, but that one will be hard to beat. They looked so nervous all of them and on tranqilisers.Never understood how Hart seems the automatic choice , his distribution was poor and his weak hands cost us 2 goals in 4 games. Rooney started the tournament well, but got worse and worse and should have been subbed half time. His passing was appalling. As was Cane's free kick delivery -why does he take them. Sterling dissappeared after a frisky start. Sturridge never appeared. The backs who had done so well getting down the wings in the 1st round, were almost as static as the rest, smothered by Iceland's defense and starved by terrible passing. Rashford and Vardy should have been on far earlier.
Saw the play recently Tramore (Hobson's Choice). I really enjoyed it. Certainly more than watching England!
I see no humiliation in last night. That was last Friday morning! I find it hilarious that people are shocked that England lost to a team that beat Holland twice in qualifying. I did expect an England victory by a short head, but I was not a bit surprised that we were beaten by a better side. Iceland players inferior to ours? At least they can control a ball & pass to their own man. Yes, Mr. Rooney. Yes, Mr. Kane & the rest of them, this is aimed at YOU! Vardy & Rashford must have covered more ground than ther rest of them combined!
Please allow me to offer my condolences to fellow members on this forum. England have always had the players, just not the managers to it happen. Roy is gone so things are already looking up. I sincerely wish you all the best. Aussie
This. Word to word have to agree. Would be nice to see a statisti s about misplaced passes. I believe it would be like this: England 77 Iceland 2 !
Resisted the urge to comment last night, but in no better mood this morning. I hope Joe Hart never pulls on the jersey again. I've never bought in to his fake patriotic shouting act, just shut your mouth and make the simple saves. Roy Hodgson, as I stated on another thread, simply did not know his best system or his best team. The writing was on the wall after the Portugal friendly. He's outdated in the modern game, and what the team needed was the Hairdryer treatment and he cannot provide it. The most depressing fact is who could manage us next. Gareth Southgate? Do me a favour, he failed at Middlesborough and missed our crucial pen at Euro 96. The guy's a loser and he's soft. We need a winning mentality.
There's the key. The selection was WRONG. At very least the timing of the subs was wrong. Perhaps not Vardy but with the two runs Rashford made in the few minutes he'd been given, image if he'd had even just 20 mins! Roy pays the price and quite right too.
As the game went on 3-1 began to look more likely than 2-2, not withstanding Hart's handling error for Iceland's 2nd goal. I started off watching this game wanting England to win, to show some of the promise that I know they are capable of, but I could not stop my sympathies switching to Iceland. They outfought out thought and out played England and in the end it would have been a travesty if they had not progressed. How did Churchill describe the Soviet Union one time, as a riddle wrapped up in a mystery inside an enigma? Pretty much applies equally to the England team since 1966
Just what I'd expect I'm afraid. The Welsh hate us (sorry Beth but it is so imo), The Scots hate us and now most of Europe hates us more openly than they did before. We will have to take lessons from Millwall fans about how to be hated and just get on with life anyway. Hey ho. Clarification: When I say 'us', I consider myself English culturally since I am not so by birth!
We convicts don't hate you, mate. We still pay our taxes to the Queen. We just think our coaches and managers are better.
