    A different direction?

Does everyone remember a few weeks back that either Guan or KBSS from TSW apparently said that we were going in a new direction (or something similar) this summer? I was just having a think to myself catching up over the weekends posts about what this could now possibly mean?

From what I can see so far (and please do not read this as an attack on Kat/Les/The Board), this summer seems VERY similar to many recent summers. E.g. We sell 3-5 of our 'best' assets (I put best in inverted commas as they're actually a mix of those most likely to be overpriced by suitors and/or in some cases aging players likely to see a reduction in playing time - Pelle), we then reinvest on hidden gems for a net transfer surplus, but the surplus some covers additional costs elsewhere (Leibherr loans, staplewood, additional wages), and the end product on the field is of a similar but slightly better quality iteration than the previous.

While I'm perfectly happy with all of the above (assuming we don't have a shocker in the reinvestment part of that process), I'm struggling to see what's different this summer. Is it:

    a) We're actually going to surprise everyone and have either a big signing, or a net transfer deficit?

    b) That we're going to sign players such that we field a team with more of a specific trait (e.g. British/French/Youth)?

    c) We originally planned to go in a different direction, but something in the manager hunt and/or our estimates over how many players wanting out has changed, meaning we've aborted the 'different/new' part?

    d) Something else?

    What's everyone's thoughts now?

All this was said before the lying dutchman decided to invest in his bank. I wonder if we were going to go just very ykung signings and then two bigger ones.

I have no idea, just guessing.

Perhaps hanging onto players was part of that - we did get three new contracts signed before the mini meltdown started. Davis since and rumoured Long already done.

HBA was absolutely outstanding last year, not just good. Would be nice to have a number 10 who can drive at players. Definite yes from me

Now the Euro's are over what are we going to discuss for the rest of the summer, its not as if there's much exciting going on at St Mary's, going to be a long quiet summer i think. :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Okay, potential is the wrong word, 75-80% of his true ability then. I do agree he's a risk in terms of 'team' though.

That article says HBA played 34 games for Nice last season ans scored 32 goals, not sure that return is good enough. I think we should be aiming higher!!!

I think we wcould take Berahino to the next level, he obviously has potential but maybe a slight attitude proble. Saying that can't see it happening due to transfer costs.

Really wouldn't want to sign Berahino. Had one good run of form a couple of years ago and is only rated so highly because he is young and English.

Think his head went when the transfer to spuds fell through. An example of having an unhappy player on the books, which makes our transfers look even better.

If you don't want to stay, we will get top prices and move them on.

WBA could have taken £8-9 million more if they'd sold last season, and ended up putting Berahino on the bench most of the season.

Uglyinside article on HBA isn't accurate, he played most of the season at number 10
