Not that I'd want the Cherries to lose their manager, it is perfectly possible for an inexperienced manager of real skill, tactical awareness, and an eye for detail to take players and mould them into a sound football team.
I wouldn't mind Shearer being involved in some way, but not in total charge. He'd be good in the 'Roy Keane' role that Ireland have. Someone who's not afraid to tell players in public when they're not doing enough.
She does. Wales have succeeded where they have needed to succeed. If they lose this Friday then they still will have had an excellent tournament, but I think they have a chance. Perhaps not as much as Iceland's, but then they face decent opposition.
I would actually welcome fat sam to the role. I think he would get them organized and inspire some fight. I guess that thought alone shows the levels of ****s I give about England
Yes, you hate yourself. Actually, he'd possibly be very good. He's often considered the hoof-ball merchant, but he only plays the tactic that his teams are capable of playing. He's a pragmatist, not an entertainer. If he entertains while he's aiming to win the game, then fair enough, is his idea. Tactically astute ENGLISH manager. Now there's a rare animal.
I'll just add that no one's getting anything out of any squad, just like no one has for the past quarter century. The FA either has awful taste in talent, or no one any good wants the job - probably both. Welcome staid new managerial talent Gareth Southgate, or whichever other FA-sanctioned proto-politician they choose, good in social situations with Greg Dyke and Prince William. English international football is light years behind, so much so I think the sensible thing would be to retire the international arm of our game, so to focus more clearly on making more £s from our domestic game. The England manager should become a symbolic role, concentrating more on supporting the churn of Southampton players up the food chain by telling them to go to top four clubs.
I did the same. Watched barely any football live this tournament - always had a few hours delay. Enabled me to watch pure football, a bit of anti-football (such as the late kick-off tonight), and absolutely no drivel from any single pundit on either channel. Has been quite blissful.
At least he is guaranteed not to get us relegated. I too am absolutely pro going for 100% pure comedy in England's next managerial selection. Pulls? Or let's bring Steve Kean back into the game.
To be fair, I think Tony Pulis is a bit Welsh. Scotsman Steve Kean is still in the game. You can look up where.
At least you'll get rid of Roy for good, after all it was silly to expect anything with such an inept manager.
I don't think Hodgson was inept. And he was very experienced in European football. However, he was too loyal. There's an old story of Alf Ramsey who, when an England squad broke up after a match, had all the player saying goodbye to him. Martin Peters [I think] said, see you next time Alf. And Ramsey replied, if selected. Which, although Ramsey often picked the same players, he picked them to fit his system. But they had to be playing well for their club. Hodgson has taken a lot of flak [on here] in the last 24 hours from pundits talking about his loyalty to Sterling, Wilshere, and a couple of others. And it's strange that they've taken so long to say it because we've said it since the squad was announced. Hodgson should have taken Drinkwater and Townsend all day long. They were both on fire and were maverick enough not to be predictable, especially Townsend. The very thing that Hodgson couldn't trust with him was the very thing that got him selected a few years back. And Drinkwater would have been on message with Vardy, who has been criminally little used. Hence, Hodgson had a dilemma, because his key players weren't fit or firing and he couldn't select alternatives to fit a system he didn't have. Too loyal and ending up tactically a mess.
The players are good enough. They're not as good as their Spanish and German counterparts, but they are still in the top dozen squads in the world. For me that can't be argued against. It all comes down to the management. The now infamous 'six changes' completely took the wind out of our sail and the Iceland game became another 'opening game' which of course we are always crap in. But the lack of passion from Hodgson, Rooney, or anyone for that matter, was the single most shocking thing. When all the players hung their heads and sunk to the floor at the end, it honestly threw me a little. It looked like they were acting because they certainly didn't seem to give that much of a ****e during the 90 minutes. And Harry Kane. Why is that cockmuncher practising his 'Ronaldo' style free kicks during a major tournament? Practice in your ****ing garden you complete arsefuck. And no doubt, mark my words, the very first free kick he takes for Spuds next season, will fly in the top corner. I almost think the England shirt is cursed. The FA need to take a long, long time to carefully consider who they will appoint next. No ****ing way should it be Southgate. Maybe they could appoint him as interim, just to see us through the first few qualifiers for 2018, but we need a man with passion. Southgate is another damp squib 'yes' man. I'd even prefer Shearer. The England rugby team are currently demonstrating the importance of good coaching. Compare the 2015 World Cup team to the 2016 Eddie Jones team. Worlds apart. Soon enough our ranking will slide into the twenties and we will lose our seeding and future qualification for tournaments will be more difficult.
