He was out of contract. You can't resign from a job you don't have.

Should have went after the utterly embarrassing World Cup mate.

Will they dare appoint someone who actually chooses the right players, not the ones at the 'right clubs'.

Will they **** it's got Pardew all over it, ha.

A team packed with Nancy boys is suicide tbh ..... FFS, Joey Barton would've made a difference.

Sorry mate, this is just a drunken night after watching a wonderful Italy and abject England.

Comm has ruined this board, just as his mate ACS ruined the Mag board, and people like me have no place on here.

I truly miss all the decent lads but I can't be arsed with all the tedious drivel some people churn out tbh.

All the best to you all.

    Abject humiliation tonight.

    No Plan A.

    No Plan B.

Why Rooney and Sterling were allowed to leave the changing room at half time was beyond me.

Not that it was their fault. Why Woy' went back to Sterling, Rooney and Kane after the first few round of games will be one of life's unponderables for many years to come.

At the same time, Iceland were fantastic!

    Well done ya buggers!

Well said, mate. Iceland have played Austria, Hungary, Portugal, and England and they haven't lost a game yet! Coming out of the group games, it should have been obvious that this wasn't going to be an easy game. I think we approached Iceland with a completely wrong attitude.

Why just settle for Pards when we could have the people that the barcodes obviously felt were better? The combination of O'Neill and Keane seems to be doing ok for Ireland, so surely it is time for England to appoint the power duo of Carver and Kinnear.

What's wrong with going for the Iceland manager?

Apart from the fact he's a dentist from 9 to 5 and would need to see his patients 5 days a week. Doesn't seem to stop him setting out the plumber, decorator, fisherman, etc, to play with flair and passion.

I suspect that players, such as Jermaine Defoe have offered up a vote of thanks to the Almighty Team Selector because he WASN'T picked for the tournament.

Those that were but particularly those that were on the pitch last night, (note I didn't say PLAYED), will have to face some rather angry England Fans at the start of next Season.

I seem to recall Beckham getting stick for months after being stupidly sent off in a World Cup Game.

I expect that these players will have something similar in store.

That said, and because I'm not particularly interested in The National Team, I have to congratulate Iceland.

A truly memorable result for them.

The equivalent of Hartlepool winning the Cup.

This isn't the massive surprise that everyone wants it to be. Nor is it the 'humiliation' that the press are calling it. Iceland's joint manager Lars Lagerback was in charge of Sweden for years so knows how to cope in a major tournament. All of their players player for decent professional clubs elsewhere in Europe. They are proper footballers, not part-timers. They were better organised and had more heart than one of the poorest England teams I can remember. Calling this a surprise or a humiliation is patronising Iceland.

Not bitter at all, you're just a bore who doesn't want anything on the board he doesn't like.

Calling someone 'Smuggles', for the hundredth time, and thinking it's really funny says everything about your level of wit.

Anyway, I'll leave you to run your little empire .......

How comes you waited for Smug to come along before saying anything about Comm? If you have a problem in life do you just wait until you've got back up to deal with it or something...

Smug and Comm have their own thing, that I refuse to get involved in but I really get on with both of them, but we've all had exchanges in the past, I don't wait for somebody else to dig them out before I say my piece. I don't get why folk like you ride the coat tails of posters who have the balls to say what they think.

    It's a bit pathetic isn't it?
