Sorry Hoops, Hodgson has always seemed a dignified and nice bloke to me, And his record with limited teams was quite good, but failure in these circumstances can never be honourable. Not resigning really wasn't an option. I hope he enjoys his retirement, but he will always be remembered for this result.
we havent had a good manager for so long the blame must go to the selectors they could have had harry redknapp but they selected a manager with no proven record the next step is to select another useless manager in gareth southgate
The difference is that if the Germans went down 1-2 in the first half, they'd see it as a challenge. Tonight, we saw it as an omen
With the one nil head start England should've picked Iceland off as they tried to press. As plucky as they are they shouldn't have the skills to the put two past us. Once they were in front, I knew the game was up. I could see it in the players.
The RTE panel (Damian Duff, Didi Hamman and Eamon Dunphy) highlighted how the 1st goal from a throw in was worked in that the throw taker targeted Rooney and how they positioned one of their center halves next to him, no contest in height terms, therefore keeping the ball away from the big England center backs, simply training ground exercise. Also they said that the last England goal scorer from a corner in a major tournament was Matthew Upson showing that England don't really do set piece training moves. This facet is now common place with the smaller nations as they know they can spring a surprise and it only needs to work once.......
Agreed Toots some looked as if they didn't fancy it, after all they are Premier League superstars and they have the devine right to win without actually putting in the effort to make things happen.
