Lionel Messi announced his retirement from international duty after missing in a penalty shootout as Argentina lost a fourth major final in nine years. "It's not meant for me. For me the national team is over. I've done all I can, it hurts not to be a champion," the 29-year-old said after defeat by Chile at the Copa America. http://m.bbc.com/sport/football/36637591 ..... Arr poor lad.
So when you've not got your Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets butlers to put everything on a plate for you, you cry like a 6 year old who's had her crayons taken off her.
Ronaldo is the cry-baby though, imagine what Messi would be like having to play with the ****e that Ronaldo plays with.
Ronnies army. A one legged stevie wonder is better than them. But have a git good general. Messi is just a pathetic tart. Canny player like.
Well, there's no doubt that they are very good players but when you quit on your team, you have to question them. Ronaldo has his very selfish outlook on his career, but Messi has also just proved that he's not in it for the team either. I guess when you're that good, your ego takes over. People will like Zidane, Figo, Ronaldo (Fat Goofy), Scholes... way more than people like Suarez, Messi, Ronaldo... are they better? Questionable, is my answer, but they are certainly more likable. Humility goes a long way.
True few really talented players have a team work ethic and a basic empathy with the less talented - still think Messi has many team work attributes but adulation maybe changing him. Standout all round talented player today is Bale - his put down answer re the note from his daughter was pure class Add this to his emotional playing style for Wales says it all in my honest opinion - pure class footballer & human being Oops I've changed thread tack
Thats ok. You havnt. Plus it wouldnt matter. I wouldnt put Bale nowhere near the bracket of any player mentioned on this thread yet. Yes he is good. But not messi, ronaldo, suarez good. Plus the daughter bit. I didnt understand.
I think Messi's career has been constantly blighted by his own obsession with Maradona and with becoming the greatest player ever. In international games, he's held the ball, fiddled about and tried to beat everybody on the pitch while Tevez and Higuain were in scoring positions and crying out for the pass. Time and again, a crowded defence robbed him of the ball and broke fast up the other end with Argentina's defence stretched. I would say, if there was one over-riding reason for Argentina's under-performing these last few World Cups, it has been Lionel Messi. He's just too obsessed with the spectre of Maradona, and feels he has something to prove. It's ruined him.
Talking about Bale as one of the best players, if not the best... it just shows how few amazing players are playing today really. Gareth Bale. Not fit to lace Paul Scholes' boots.
Standout all round talented player today is Bale .... Off his nut. Must have been round to montys again.
I argue with my Dad on a weekly basis that Messi isn't as good as Ronaldo! NO DAD MESSI IS A NICER PERSON THAN RONALDO ON THE PITCH - he is certainly not a better footballer. He's a good footballer but why not try to move away from the comfort league! 29 and retired from international football cos you keep losing on the big stage - what a legacy! He's also slower than Yedlin!
The best player on the planet, who doesn't put himself before the team, is Luis Suarez and there's nobody within a million miles of him this season.
