Arent there 15 other clubs in the EPL who also dont make it to the Champions League.

Granted not all of them seriously think they will, but they dont start the season thinking 'oh, let see if we cant have a relegation battle this season lads'...

Some seriously big names that dont:

    Man U
    Liverpool
    Everton
    Chelsea
    West Ham
    Spuds (next season :1980_boogie_down:)

When did they promise you Champions League by?

At what point in the last 7 years have they taken a slip back in that target? (they will by the way, because that's what happens in life, but as of now, they haven't)

What do you do with a player who wants to leave?

What do you do when a player is offered wages way higher than in your budget?

How do you raise money to buy more players? Yes, more TV money - there! I've given you one answer

Very valid points. At certain moments clubs have roually ****ed it up.

    Leeds being one big name.

The other point I was thinking is football has always lived slightly beyond its means. People bang on about the TV deals etc. but all this happened before in 1992 when the Perm League started. Did that really help the game or clubs sort themselves out with £££.

Did it bollocks. The same thing will happen now. Agents, players, and Execs will take all the money, just more of it.

All that is happening are the ££ gets bigger and the mortgage factor of clubs gets more perilous...

I agree with Fats, that there probably wasn't any other choice.

But it still hurts. He is truly the most creative player we have had in years, and still so young. I can see him becoming one of the best players in the league under Klopp.

I know the club can't do much, but that doesn't stop me hating every thing about it.

There is also the possibility that all these best players we have sold, may not actually have been good enough for the top. Not many of them have gone on to make their mark yet at their new clubs at the top level. Toby at Spuds, but even he hasn't yet had the chance to show it in the Champions League. None of the others have actually succeeded yet at their new clubs, so may be Les is an absolute genius and actually sold our **** players <laugh>

Yes. I am taking the piss.

At ease defender of the board. Its only normal that a few of us will feel disappointed today, selling a key player is always tough, selling to L'pool makes it worse!
We know the club isn't in a situation to keep everyone when the big boys come knocking, we just want to know that we are putting up the best fight possible. When clubs ring us to inquire, we want them to feel trepidation & fear, we want to do deals on our terms. When this news broke, £30M seemed to be the itk fee. And that is too low. £34M + 2 sounds like we made them squirm, so fair play. How we trade with our rivals sends other clubs a message, we must remain strong.
As for Mane, he has cemented his place in the history books with us, one blip aside he has always acted professionally, no beef.

Not sure you are taking the piss with this!

You are not far wrong. I was talking to a friend only this morning and we were talking about this point and we both struggled to name anyone who has left that has enjoyed the levels they were expecting.

Clyne - has done OK but hasnt improved as a player. Did really well to finish behind the small, lowly Saints.

Lallana - has gone slightly backward in my opinion. See above

Lovren has got worse. :emoticon-0102-bigsm and see above

Shaw - has got a little better but is injury prone :emoticon-0105-wink:

Osvaldo - no need to comment

    Ramirez - see above

    Juanmi - hmmm

Morgan - certainly no better but in context it could be argued he has got worse.

Olly Lancashire - surely the one that got away. Can see why people on here are pissed now...

Harsh. After a terrible start with bad fitness levels he really turned it around. The tackle that sidelined him still makes me cringe. He will do very well for them.

At ease Mr Negative :p .. Guess what? I am just as disappointed today as the rest of you. I just don't go moaning and groaning about the club. Instead of the "at ease" line, what a bout a big "Calm down chaps" line to those who can't quite control their emotions, eh? :emoticon-0148-yes:

The part of your post about how you want the club to act when clubs ring us up is pointless, simply because (and I'll say it again, you may actually notice it eventually).... We don't know what actually happened - we're just guessing.

    On the other points:
The fee - why don't you wait to hear the actual fee before squealing then?
Mane - yep, cemented his place in history and no beefs - that might not have been the case had we not done a deal... again, we don't know, but I would guess that he didn't say to Les that he wanted to stay and play in the Europa league for us - do you?

    Yours

Defender of the Board (and club)
and will continue to be so whilst people squeal unreasonably :)

PS - Does anyone really think the club just answer the phone and say "yes" without proper negotiation? Without any fight?

Glad you took it with a smile! When I saw the news unfolding late last night I stayed up & vented my fury rather than preparing myself for the quick arriving Monday morning. I still think we let Spurs call the shots with Vic, I know he wasn't go to sign to put us in a strong position, but £11M for a 24 yo with ample talent just seemed wrong. Maybe we got a % sell on in there? But in 2014 we really took no ****, you can't let your guard down for a second in this ruthless industry. I don't want a rich Arab, I'm pleased we are still part of the Liebherr empire, and still have our identity, that is very important to me.
Now we must hope the Puel embraces the challenge, and has a few idea's up his sleeves.

Absolutely. We need to hope/trust that Claude will come in and carry on the march.

I try to take things with a smile... doesn't always happen though :emoticon-0138-think

It's difficult to be sure because of the new TV deal but I'm not sure Mane is worth £34-36 million.

And Vic knobbles Mane with an awful tackle and gets a ban from football for violent conduct and Mane out for the season!

Man U - Ronaldo, Di Maria,
    Liverpool - Torres, Suarez,
Everton - struggling to think off the top of my head to be fair, but watch Lukaku and Stones go this summer.
Chelsea - no qualms in spending massively over the top on anyone
West Ham - Carrick, Lampard etc recent seasons maybe not but until this year - who would have made top four side?
    Spurs - Berbatov, Carrick,

These are just off the top of my head on lunch break - most teams are selling clubs.

Would like Mane's money recycled into the squad with a top quality RB a priority plus a goalscoring and creative AM.

Would people prefer that we sold Mane next season with just a year left and be faced with another low VW type fee??

Mane is good and has great potential so he's unlikely to stay here long. Why not sell when we can get a fantastic fee for him because he's not going to sign a new contract. Wanyama sure was a good player but his passing was questionable and so he is replaceable for our style of play. Pelle is ageing and to be honest I would have wanted us to upgrade on him this summer anyway.

Why not wait and see what we bring in before having a flap? You'll take off in a minute. Get the bad news out the way before bolstering the squad with decent signings.

I think the 'pool Klopp love in could be at risk if he's not setting the PL alight by October. Their fans still feel 'done over' by their past deals with us (like we ask 'em to bloody buy our players) and if Mane gos missing for a few games the moans will start. As it is some of the buggers feel he's not good enough for a 'top' team like Liverpool. That sense of entitlement eh?
