Either way, not my money so doesn't really matter in grand scheme of things other than if it means we can't afford another rarer by the extra £5m

 

The biggest thing is Mane lets everything get to him. Misses a few or has a bad game he will beat himself up over it. Unlike most players he won't just get over it either. That is why he ends up trying to hard or sulking at every decision against him. He hasn't got a ego, it's just how he deals with playing poorly. On his day he is class and scares the **** out of defenders.

 

Certainly scared **** out of ours a few times, although appreciate that isn't hard!

 

I really don't understand why people place such emphasis on the Europa? It is great for us as fans because it is new to us and another competition we want to do well in, but a lot of our players came from clubs to join us who were basically guaranteed a spot in the Europa minimum every year (Mane, for example, played in it for Salzburg the year before signing for us) so I don't see it as a reason at all for a player to stay.

So a fast player, can be inconsistent but scares defenders to create chances, scores more goals and we need to find a replacement? How about finding a replacement for this sort of player for a third of the price we sell for? Oh, hang on, we already did and we bought him from Hull.

Think we should have held on for another season with Mane, if I'm perfectly honest, but hey ho.

Sorry but as much as I love Shane he cannot bring what mane brought. Mane was our only player capable of taking him man on since clyne left (OK tadic can sometimes).

More disappointed by this than anything in recent years, he was the most exciting player we've had for years.

 

Potential to be world class. Nice lad too.

 

What a ****ing joke. I love what the club have achieved over the last few years but my gosh, they are soft as ****e. Are we not getting the same TV money as everyone else? Bollocks.

 

I believe it's time for Katrina to sell up! It's pretty obvious, we need a new owner. She and her family, has done wonders for this club, but now is the time to find new ownership.What other club finished in the top 10 and sells their best players!
The only players we should sell, is ones that arnt good enough, for Southampton FC. We need to tell clubs to piss off, and go somewhere else, otherwise, it will never stop.
Why is Mane joining a club, that finished lower than us, and has only domestic honours to play for? LFC are a team of the past, living on past glories! I could stomach on him going to CFC, MC, MU, just not them!
We need to sort this out. It's time for our board to show some balls, and stop the revolving door.

Ambition.

 

Sadly I don't think it's as simple as telling other teams to look elsewhere. Players hear of interest through their agents & if they want to go elsewhere then so be it & the best the club can do is get a decent price for them, which is what we've been pretty good at recently at least. Liverpool obviously still has a big attraction for players due to reputation, history, stadium whatever - there's much more to compete with than just the financials. If an individual wants to play for another team then the club obviously make the call about whether to let them go or not - a la wanyama & schneiderlin staying on for a season more than they probably wanted to at the time. No prem club is under pressure to sell any more, however we're in another transition period this summer so timing and getting a good fee are key so the board must've decided it's in the best interest of the club to let him go.

 

Mane's departure is very disappointing news. I have read through last 5-6 pages and have understood the emotional frustration on the one hand and the opposite cold reasoning about what our limitations are on the other.

Realistically; we are in a Catch 22 and there is no discernible way out. Every season in which we are successful with player development we will face this issue. We can only hope that are steady progression up the league continues until we get to a position where players want to stay or join us because we are a top-four club. We have come a long way up that mountain and we are getting close to that summit, but the climb is getting harder. Remember, a couple of better results in November/December and we would be in the CL next season.

The Board have done a fantastic job to date - they are also aware more than we are of the harsh realities of managing a club in the EPL more than us blog site experts.
