There is that, but in truth not as if he went there a star, he isn't guaranteed to be in fortunes. That young lad who came on as sub looks excellent as well, name escapes me still playing in Croatia.
I don't want Carrol, too easy for a big fee and **** load of wages to be flushed down the bog with his injuries. Sam questions his ethics too. The lad is unplayable no doubt. Just very risky. Every signing has to count, especially the big ones.
I don't know why he's such a popular shout on here, he's just a big lump with very little ability. He's good in the air but for someone who is supposed to be a classic centre forward he scores **** all goals.
He's a handful, wares defenders out and pulls them out of position which leaves gaps and he's good in the air. I see the appeal. But he's a crock, plain and simple.
I ask for more than that from a striker it's not enough. We need someone to put the ball in the net, not do everything but. I'm on a hiding to nothing with this argument though, everyone apart from me seems to think he's **** hot for some reason. Not sure how you got **** hot from seeing the appeal. I don't think he's **** hot. He's not for me. I do though want a center forward who can trap and hold up the ball, strong in the air, has a turn of pace and can play with the ball on the deck. I want it urgently. We might be able to keep the ball in the opponents half for more than 30 seconds and stop. Certainly can't rely on strikers who play off the last man again. For a strong squad we need variety and options imo. We've got a prolific goal scorer already, lets get players who bring something we don't have.
I didn't mean you mate, probably didn't make that very clear. I think it's fair to say there are better options than Carroll. We do need a strong presence upfront but someone half decent on the ball would be nice.
I'd rather have Sakho or Dzeko of the players linked but as I said to Tel the other day, I'd go for Islam Slimani from Sporting. I think he'd be perfect for this league.
Valid points. BUT. If he could stay fit. Carrol and Defoe imo would cause havoc. Maybe why im totally in favour of Dzeko as well. Either would be nice. Not convinced on Sakho mind.
Naieve - perhaps or a positive rather than negative Sunderland fan - i'm not stupid and realize what downsides may & probably will happen (Ive been a Sunderalnd fan for over 55yrs so am well prepared for disappointment) Its pre season and with the vibes coming from our club its one of the times when you can have a feel good mindset - But in your opinion its naieve to be too positive. What was your opinion at the time when we got O'Neil. Di Canio. Poyet or Dick? You say for the first time in a long time. So you were unhappy with all of them? I sure as hell wasnt. Both O'Neil and the mad italian. I was delighted with. It never worked out and its easy to say now. Oh i never wanted...... But i was happy with them. Bit like you are with SA. Well maybe not that much.
I was really pleased with them and hopeful we would move on despite the problems in the club were in but it never worked out. Thought MON was our made in heaven appointment like many on here - but think he was a byrne victim on the transfer front - With De Canio thought he was the change of focus we needed - the players and media had other ideas. Dick was never a long term appointment and indicated this when he came back - all part of the clubs evolution to now But you and others may disagree - its all opinions as I said most want a successful winning team
