Take care, a lot of murders occur in those villages. I hear DCI Barnaby is considering retiring to the area to keep his eye in.
Yes it was part of their contingency plan, we in effect deal with marketable risk. If the Brexit hadn't gone ahead there would be no need to relocate but due to an out vote being successful then that is the catalyst for them too do so. Simply put it's a safer and more profitable decision to move then to stay.
Speaking as one who agitated for this thread for a very particular reason, namely to keep politics out of the general chit-chat thread, I do feel that it's served that purpose well. If I feel like seeing what drivel/superior rhetoric is being posted I can take a look, if not I can ignore it. Closing it will just move this into other areas. However, an outright ban on politics anywhere would also keep me content if it were applied across the board. Vin
Holcombe was where I grew up, married and lived in Norton( and divorced there ). Kids still live in Westfield and Norton. Am a regular visitor to see the grandkids plus the aged Ps live in Wells
Imp - I've been reading a number of your posts on this and other matters and you are basically my hero in this forum. You make points I would like to make unbelievably eloquently. Truly truly gifted.
Hillary Benn sacked from shadow cabinet. Just go Jeremy please. You are no leader and it disappoints me to say that.
I've been thinking about some of these posts overnight and use of left wing and righting and other political terms. Anyone using those terms is basically stuck in the past. We've moved on. We've become more circular or even spherical. I kept reading some of them thinking well I think that side quite often but I've not voted that way and I also the vice versa. Still far too much "labelling" goes on.
It's funny, the first ever lecture I had as a psychiatric nurse student in 1983 was about labelling. By labelling you excuse yourself and sometimes others from the bother of thinking was what we were told. I do think we need to praise the petrol stations who have already raised prices 3-4p a litre locally. Always first to exploit any situation, when oil goes down by 20% or the $ has a dodgy week we'll be spun the usual 'takes time to go through the system/bought this oil 3 months ago' rubbish.
Just watching the News and see that senior French politicians are now saying they shouldn't pay for/have immigration control to the UK anymore.
I think this whole labelling is so out of date too and actually hides the real issues. It is the old adage of voting for a pig if it was wearing the correct coloured rosette at a general election. One simple and long overdue way to overcome this is to modernise the voting system to a form of PR. In every general election my vote is wasted because there is as much chance in my constituency of returning a person with ideas that are roughly in line with mine are zero. This would then mean political parties could split into the factions that best suit their views and the house of commons would be far more representative and true discussions could take place. It is far more interesting to watch the committees than the House coverage because that is where you see the real work of the House and shows the true cooperation of MPs from all parties.
I agree. PR is surely the way to go? I vote labour, but here it is wasted, I refuse to vote tactically, because there is a labour member who puts their point across, they put time and effort into it, if I don't vote for them, what is the point?
Listening to a UKIP MEP on Radio 5 this morning complaining that she thinks her voice won't be listened to during discussions in the European Parliament since the vote was somewhat surreal. I am not quite sure why she thinks a British MEP's views would be of any interest to the Parliament!
The French are angry that we dare go against their wishes. Are they so disinterested that they would see the tunnel blown up by terrorists just because we dare to disagree? Statements like that are one of the reasons people voted to leave. Mind you perhaps it helps them to take their peoples mind off all the things that are going on in that country at the moment. Same Ol' cliche.......blame the Brits.
