The only reality is that Scotland voted overwhelmingly to remain. Sturgeon will use that as her mandate.

She can blether on all she likes, the Europe they voted against last time, is an even bigger mess this morning.

Have some dignity. Just accept you called it wrong, and move forward with the UK.

I'll pack my bags. This country has always had an undertone of racism for those of us that are tinted, this just confirms.

As for the economy etc...I'm not too bothered, I'll always have food on my table.

How does voting out of the EU prove an undertone of racism towards those of you that are "tinted"?

Edit: p.s. I did have a little chuckle at "tinted", haven't seen that used before <laugh>

I was surprised by the result. However, you are mistaken about Scotland. They voted to remain in Europe. Sturgeon will take that as her mandate for a new referendum. If she gets it, she will win!...

    Sadly you're right.

People will happily gamble their prosperity to get rid of foreigners.

As has been said, too many people voting for the wrong reasons. Farage used immigration, as did others, as a distraction away from the other major issues.

Unfortunately, a gullible mostly English public, fell for it....

Because most Leavers were focused on immigration. It took Farage 30 seconds of his "victory" speech to highlight the battle against immigration and that's what he spoke about until the end of it.

When they had a real opportunity to go it alone, they binned it. The options open to them now are even less enticing.

Once again! They voted to stay in a UK that was part of the EU. That is no longer the case!....

I don't think the country will ever unite again in my lifetime. Those of us that were around in the 60's and early 70's can remember what it was like before we joined and most of us would not like to return to that situation. The only good thing about that period was that we had a manufacturing base that we will never see again. Isolation or cooperation was the choice and we narrowly chose the wrong path. I feel really bad that it is my kids who will ultimately pay the price of this really stupid decision.

<laugh> They don't come close to meeting the requirements to join the EU, and they know it. We're the first, but others will follow, so why would they want to join what's left of it. They'll work out that they're far better with us.

    Happy independence day. <ok>

I just wondered why as someone from a non-eu background you felt that pulling out of the EU was somehow a show of racism towards people from outside the EU? (as I assume you weren't including other Europeans in the "tinted" brigade?)

I get that there is a large proportion of leave voters who will have been swayed by the immigration arguments, but firstly that doesn't necessarily make them racist (I'm not going to pretend there aren't racists amongst the ranks), if anything as we are all of European decent the argument would more be xenophobia, but again having issues with immigration doesn't make someone automatically xenophobic either and there were plenty of people who voted out not on immigration grounds.

I'd also like to point out that anyone who voted out purely on the basis of immigration may be dissapointed depending on what deal we do with the Europe as it may be that we compromise on freedom of movement for access to the free market depending on how negotiations go. I wish the campaign on both sides had been more honest about how this may have gone with either outcome. Nothing is off the table at this point and it really will depend what deal we strike to what we gain/lose from this separation.

FTSE down 7% so far. Although half the companies in the 100 haven't opened.

But it's nothing to do with Brexit. Tesco's profits are down. :azn:
