Those of us who have voted to leave who aren't little englanders or right wing nutters don't think the country should sail alone but rather embrace the global community rather than just the EU. There's a range of different voters on both sides of this debate and the constant insults towards eurosceptic voters will have entrenched their positions.

If anyone is interested in why I voted in.. I've stuck to my guns pretty much all the way through having listened to so called experts and their opinions.. The main reason for me voting to stay has always been that it feels like a backward step in coming out. We can't turn the clocks back and the only way society as a whole can progress is through greater cooperation and integration. Not becoming isolationist. The world needs to progress as a whole unit and the eu was the beginning of that and I'd rather us be a part of that than some tiny insignificant island full of idiots that think by not being in the eu we will find some utopia of the 1960's where the world was allegedly a better place.

We are a tiny, little, largely insignificant island, In global terms. As part of the wider Europe we have a voice. Alone, we have a much smaller one!..

We are a tiny island with the fifth largest economy in the world, with connections globally through things like the G8, NATO, the Common Wealth etc... We are not some insignificant country and being outside the EU won't all of a sudden mean we don't have a voice as a nation.

The fifth largest at the moment! If Brexit becomes reality, watch that change very quickly.

Apart from that, if I've got your drift correctly, as part of the EU we have become the world's fifth biggest economy. And you want to change that?....

Britain was a racist country in the 60's.

It's the country my old man moved to and struggled to get a fair go in.

And now he's a borderline Nazi.

It's a bit like Stockholm Syndrome.

But being part of it doesn't take any of things away. They are just other mechanisms to bring about the same thing.

I have more over felt that whether we are in or out is insignificant as only true change can come about when the world wakes up to the fact that our governments are meaningless entities merely there to give us the illusion of choice. The people that control the flow of money and debt are who control things. There was a quote from Rothschild along the lines of ; it matters not who makes the law so long as we control the money.

So this so called choice is largely irrelevant. But the overriding factor has always been that working together in large numbers stands far more chance of bringing about change than not.

I've voted IN for a number of reasons, the economy, the environment, security, workers rights, equality acts, the fact that most of the EU laws passed actually benefit workers. But a big reason to stay in, is the UK's influence in the EU. Along with France and Germany, we are probably the biggest shaper of policy and have some of the most influence in the direction of the EU. Those who think voting OUT means we won't have anything to do with the EU are misguided. The EU isn't suddenly going to disappear, it will still affect the UK's affairs on a daily basis, if we leave it just means we have no say and no influence on how the EU affects us. To me, it seems like a very silly reason to leave one of the most influential organisation on the world stage, on the back of an abstract concept of 'getting our country back'.

Agreed. Dismantling the ruling class' grip on world finances and the power that goes with it, is another equation altogether. But I'm also firmly in agreement that working together to tackle the tangible issues that arise is better done in collaboration. I'd much rather be on the inside chipping away, than outside banging on the door about how unfair it all is.

No doubt, Stan. It was more than acceptable to publicly insult black people, etc.

I was a very young pro musician back then - mostly session work. In my work I came into close contact with black people for the first time in my life. I discovered that contrary to what I'd been led to believe, not only were some of them great musicians, they were great guys too. I made some friends I still have today.

Ever since, I've never judged anybody by the colour of their skin. You might as well judge them by the colour of their hair

That doesn't include gingers, btw, they're all ****s!...

You're assigning a causal relationship between being in the EU and our economy being the fifth largest when in reality it is down to a large number of reasons. Yes there are economic benefits to being a part of the EU, there are also economic restraints to being in the EU.

In 1970 (and in fact in 1973 when we joined the EEC) we were also the fifth largest economy in the world and in the decades before that we took up a higher position in the rankings.

RE your last line, actually those who have brought about the biggest and quickest changes are probably individual dictators rather than massive collectives of people <whistle>
