The fail has done it's usual, stick a headline on that grabs your attention then only when you read the article realise it's misleading. I should really stop falling for it! http://www.thisishullandeastriding.co.uk/HULL-CITY-Tigers-seal-Ayala-deal/story-13048370-detail/story.html This one suggests the deal is close but actually it's just Pearson confirming we want another defender and that he's our first choice. Tell you what though if we fail to get him i think that Downes from Chesterfield might be worth a punt, from all the reports he played excellently against us and he's only 26 so hardly pushing it, he's club captain at the Spireites though, so it might be quite tough to get him to come here where his first role would be as backup.
No doubt that even thought the club gave him a clean state and he pissed all over it, the usual suspects will still blame the club.
Where are they by the way? They've all gone a bit quiet recently, wonder why? Probably waiting until we lose our first game of the season so they can tell us all that if we had just let Jimmy be Jimmy and played him we'd have won!
I really hope we get Ayala, the lad is a class act, with Ayala, Chester, and Hobbs we will have one of the best defences in the league, not to mention Rosy and Dungeon on either side of them!
The problem with Ayala is that it means one of Ayala, Chester or Hobbs being left out each week which seems a massive shame to me. It would allow Chester to cover other positions if necessary but I'd hope that's a last resort because it's clear that his best position is centre half.
Why would it ? Chance for Np to play 3 at the back with Rosie and Dudg just in front. Very solid and mobile back line imo. Chance favours the brave. Maybe try it against Macclesfield.
Let's just add Ayala to the ranks, and then worry about the formations as and when the opposition is evaluated. Having 3 top quality centre backs is a problem I don't mind us having.
I know where you're coming from but if we get Ayala then we've got genuine competition for the CB area, Chester and Hobbs are great but i'd rather have a third player giving them a real push rather than have McShane who's there just in case one of them gets injured (when Macca gets back that is). We obviously need another CB at the moment anyway, so we should be looking to get the best possible one we can in.
It was a problem when we signed Hobbs on loan last season though. Chester was shunted aside and as excellent he is as a centre back he was woeful everywhere else. if we do that again it could seriously impact on his confidence and general happiness.
My main concern is having the best 2 players available for central defence. At the moment that is obviously Hobbs and Chester. I think if we sign Ayala, the best option would be Hobbs and Ayala with Chester pushing them for a starting place. I'm more concerned with the team as a whole rather than an individual player's happiness.
James Chester is bloody marvelous. I don't want to see anyone come in who'll stop Chester playing at centre half.
