Why are we going to sell mane if a big bid comes in?

 

I'm still hoping we will keep Mane....he would still fetch good money with 1 year on his contract. Too much to hope he will sign an extension, isn't it?

You just answered your own question! IF someone was to pay north of £40 million for him we'd be pretty silly to turn down that amount of money.

I'm hoping that Ronald continues his penchant for aged Dutchmen past their prime and takes Stek to Everton as backup. Think this is one area we've always been historically weak in, not having a really solid backup GK.

 

I'd say Stekkers is ideal as back up. Solid enough for that. I think we'd struggle to get someone much better to want to be back up.

 

The question is if he wants to be back up. Remember when we signed him he was guaranteed at least about 15 games (probably thought more with Europa) due to Forster's injury. Now he is a free agent might be looking to be number 1 somewhere.

 

Maybe, but at what level? He'll also be thinking that he'll get some games here with all the games we have to play. If he's happy as back up (he spent a season in the bench in France), then I'd be ok with him as number 2.

 

Fair enough fats, I'm not going to lie my opinion on this one isn't a strong one, so I accept that view.

I guess my feeling is that when Stekkers played I felt the downgrade was bigger than I hoped it should be for his past experience and reputation in the game, almost like he'd either lost his edge, or that he'd been protected in very dominant Dutch sides with less need for communication with his defenders, and wasn't as good at that side of the game with us.

I guess I feel that if the downgrade is going to be that big, you may as well have a younger keeper as backup that has a shot at improving and challenging your #1 in the future. That could be Gazza if the club feels he's ready, or if not someone else.

 

100% agree. On his day he's actually a very good keeper. I think we could do a lot worse for back-up.
