Why the **** is golf an Olympic sport anyways? Same with football and tennis. Should be amateurs competing, like in the boxing. Make darts and snooker Olympic sports please.
I don't know when a game or hobby becomes a sport. I'm sure in my lifetime console sports games will become an Olympic sport.
Professional boxers can now compete in the Olympics. Though some governing bodies are saying they'll remove the titles of anyone who does.
The Olympics let in all professionals now. Federer and Murray in the Tennis Professional footballers (can't remember who) playing for GB. Next it will be Phil Taylor and Ronnie the rocket followed by Lewis Hamilton. Gone are the days of truly amateur level sports competing in The Olympics. I am getting to sound just my Dad (god rest in peace pops). Everyday day I am saying things like "wasn't like that 20 years ago" and "remember when you could get a pint for 18p". 66. Started going in pubs in 1965 when I was 15. Beer never used to go up by much in those days each year until decimilisation let Chancellors get way with putting 1p on which was the equivalent of nearly 2.5 old pennies which would have previously caused a riot. Could still get 10 pints for a quid when I was actually old enough to go in pubs. Though, to be honest, you can buy as many pints now for the average wage as you could then. A lot of things cost far less in real terms than back then. It is the increased costs in housing and transport to and from work that has made the biggest difference in everyday costs along with huge increases in rates, council tax, water rates etc... Basic tax was 41% when I started work. Yes, 41%.

I'm 58. My first pint cost 18p. I can't remember the tax I paid back then. My first foreign holiday cost £72 all in for 2 weeks in a good quality hotel in Palma Nova/Magalluf (before it got it's reputation) Took £60 spending money for the 2 weeks. I remember everyone getting a threshold payment of £6 a week. I think it put my wages up by 25% Happy days when your bird drank mild or babycham and your leg over didn't cost you a kings ransom. Sorry for derailing the thread. that's another 54p drained from my wallet.
I can remember seeing The Beatles and The Rolling Stones for 6s6d - 32pence in modern money and Little Richard, the best of the lot, for 10s -50p in modern money in 1964. The cost of 3 and a half pints for the Beatles ans Stones and 5 or 6 pints for Little Richard. And, it was cheaper than that to stand on the terraces at BP, or anywhere else for that matter.
Concur that snooker and darts are games rather than sports, and i've always thought of sports as being those which require a level of physical fitness to participate. But then when you consider things like archery and shooting that are in the olympics, you could be a fat mess and still piss gold if you were the best, so i'd question if they should be in.....bottom line for me though, for something to work at the olympics, winning the olympics needs to be the pinnacle of achievement for the sport (or game) or where not an amateur (like boxing was) or reduced version of the sport (like u23 football). So tennis and golf can knackers as no player would rather win an olympic title than a major, pro boxers is bollocks beyond bollocks too
Not sure about the physical fitness thing. Most people would call golf a sport but if you have a buggy then there's no physical fitness required, all you do is stand up and swing your arm.
