She had parked on her drive which was a slope. A manual car with a knackered handbrake, left in neutral. Walked round the car to open garage door when it started rolling towards her. At this point she decided not to get out of the way, but to try and stop it from damaging the garage door by pushing it.

Ah, I did wonder whether we were talking about a Manual Transmission rather than an Automatic. Since owning a couple of Saabs in my younger days I always leave a car in gear at rest, ignition off, even with the handbrake on. Saabs required that the car was left in reverse when the ignition was turned off. Releasing the key locked the car in gear. Then you could have the handbrake on or not. It wasn't going to move. It was a throwback to when cars had gear keys that locked the transmission. A sensible thing to have which Saab retained.

I'm similar in that I always parked manuals in 1st. A habit I got into because my Rover Metro had a handbrake cable made of elastic, and my parents house was on a hill.

Yeah, my gear of selection is first these days as well, as I drive quite a few vehicles and first is nearly always in the same place, unlike reverse. I say nearly always as one of them is a 1980's VW Transporter Camper with 5 speeds and first is in the position of second. Takes about a couple of minutes to remember as I only drive it about once a year. ;)

I didn't click that.... You'll tell me that it is about the US Senate blocking gun sales to people who maybe suspected of planning to kill Americans, next!

Basically the NRA dictates legislation on gun control, shock. I think their quote on the list was that it may be denying innocent people the right to own a gun, if enforced.

I'm getting twitchy....a kebab box has been on my neighbour's lawn for 3 days. She didn't drop it, but she has walked past it numerous times with her kids. She has missed a valuable chance to provide those kids with a life lesson....you shouldn't drop litter, but there is no litter fairy who will pick it up if you don't. Shall I be that litter fairy...it is really winding me up. Or should I accept that she likes a kebab box on her lawn.

Don't pick it up. Her lawn, her kebab box.

Pick it up, knock on her door and say, I found this on your lawn as I was passing and didn't know whether you meant to leave it there.?

Actually a better idea. Shove it through her letter box with an anonymous note saying "Don't leave litter lying around".

Aaah that would wind me up as well. I hate litter I would have to pick it up. Wait for her to go out, pick it up and put it on her doorstep. She will think it has blown there. Hopefully this will make her pick it up. :)

I don't normally park, in first, but like you, I would do so on hills, and then forget when starting the car, and having that lurch forward.
I now have a Ford CMax, and I have to depress the clutch, in order for the car ignition to start, even though the car is in neutral.
Not sure what the reasoning is, behind this "safety feature".

A dog crapped out the front of our house when I was a kid. My dad picked it up with a shovel and went after the bloke. When he got there he said "excuse me, this appears to be yours" and deposited it on the bloke's shoes.

Wasn't to be messed with, my old man.

Popped onto my main PC this morning before work and found that I was denied access to my own files. This occasionally happens when a user has 2 or more HDDs in one computer and Windows has just done a major upgrade. Well, seems that last night while I had my jazzy dual-screen show up, Windows was quietly finishing an upgrade it started in November [I'm not kidding]. But the only way it could do it was to ignore all my personal readdressing of pathways to files. Hence I've not able to find a single thing unless I go down convoluted avenues. Finally, after an hour, it's OK again.

The final straw was not being able to find the picture I wanted of my VFR. Everything stopped until that was sorted.

The kebab box has gone...saved me making a decision.

Never had an allergic reaction in my life....hay fever is imaginary. :bandit:

Asked a waitress for a reduction because they'd taken the gluten out of my pudding. If you take something out, it should be cheaper.<laugh>
