    SLOVAKIA VS ENGLAND

    Date: 20 June 2016
    Kick Off: 8pm
    On TV?: ITV1

    Jaidi's match thread record: Played 2 - Won 1, Drawn 1.

The final group game of UEFA EURO 2016 for England.

In their last match England went 1-0 down against Wales, everyone was despairing. But then Hodgson made the half-time changes, Vardy scored in the 56th, and Daniel Sturridge scored the vital winner in the 91st. And out of nowhere, England top the group.

Slovakia won 2-1 against Russia, keeping their chances of progression well and truly alive. They are now level on points with Wales.

    • England will qualify with a point and will top the group for certain with victory.

    Possible England lineup:

I would expect Vardy to take Sterling's place, but Kane to keep his.

Bench: Forster (Southampton), Stones (Everton), Clyne (Liverpool), Henderson (Liverpool), Milner (Liverpool), Sterling (Liverpool)
Reserve: Heaton (Burnley), Bertrand (Southampton), Sturridge (Liverpool), Barkley (Everton), Wilshere (Arsenal)

    A bit about the Slovaks:
Have a decent team, Hamsik is star man further up the field. Wladimir Weiss was a promising youngster a few years ago and is good on the ball. Martin Skrtel is a physical defender, well known in the premier league, but his standard of defending has dropped significantly over the past few years and these days relies on his 'intimidation' tactics to get him by. Watch out for grappling at corners and 'stray' elbows.

Danger-man: Marek Hamsik. Well known and respected in the Italian league, Hamsik is a creative midfielder who has excellent touch and control, and as we saw in their match against Russia, can assist, as well as strike a ball and score goals. If Dier can keep a hold of him, he could be anonymous though.

    Officials
Referee: Carlos Velasco Carballo (ESP) - 2011 Europa League Final
    Linesman: Roberto Alonso Fernandez
    Linesman: Juan Carlos Yuste
    4th Official: Antonio Damato

    Lets top the group please!

    Prediction: 2-0

    Id say, yes but ...
Bertrand in for Rose (won't happen) or on bench for Clyne.
Sturridge either in for Kane or on bench for Sterling.
    Sterling in the stands.

Roy really should be giving players a chance in this match. The changes don't need to be crazy, but this game is no longer must win and we need to think about suspensions and keeping the squad fresh.

Clyne & Bertrand have got to play in my view. I don't think Alli, Kane or Sterling have done especially well in the first two games so should probably be changed on form alone.

We need to win so we can potentially get a nice juicy third placed team in the round of 16. Though Portugal could finish 3rd and I'd want to avoid them.

I'd quite like them. They've been awful and their defenders have a combined age of 4,267.

Yeah, but you just know that if we draw them, they will decide to start Jose and Cedric just to **** with Saints fans' minds :(

    He won't change the defence.

I don't give a damn what Southampton players play, but I'm confident we would lose despite how mediocre Portugal have been thus far.

Plus, I have a friend who is Portuguese so I wouldn't want us to play them for that reason.

I have heard that he will from someone that normally gets things fairly right. I think it seems likely just because of how much running full backs do. Either way the defence has been pretty good so far.

I think that you cannot play Vardy and Rose on the left because they both play too far up the pitch and would be in each others space, therefore it should be Bertrand and Vardy or Rose plus someone else.

Also, it is critical that we top the group, so a win is important. I would start Sturridge for Kane. We cannot play Portugal as they are in Group F and the third place team that we shall play should England win the group, will be from Group A, C or D in order for the rest periods to be similar temporally.

I'd go with Sturridge and Vardy, up front.
I'd also bring in Wilshire for Lallana and play him behind the front two, at the top of a diamond midfield.
The rest I'd leave as it is.

I sae a Portuguese friend of mine. He speaks very little English (we communicate in a mix of Spanish and a English) and he came up with a joke today. He said they were more like Poor-tugal. I guess you had to be there...

Yes, but then they'd choose Pelegrini, just to annoy us. ;)

Oh come on. I moaned about him for a year after Brazil, but he has earned this chance now, he has been reasonably brave, we owe him our support.
Come on England.Lets see how far we can go!

Yeah, seems a bit rash, as it makes sense to win this group and follow a nice route to the final. I can understand Vardy and Sturridge coming in, same perhaps at switching the fullbacks but resting Rooney and playing Henderson seems an unnecessary risk and we should not take a win for granted!

If they finish second England would end up in France's side of the draw and if they finish third we could end up playing Germany, seems like too much of a gamble.
