I will admit that I was calling for Wes to be replaced a couple of seasons ago. He is such a frustrating player, immense natural ability but prone to over egging the pudding. Obviously I can only go by posts on boards and match reports, but overall I now think that he is good for another championship season which will allow Maddison to bed in.

IMO, Wes will be used sparingly, as he was in the second half of last season. At 34 he can't play every game, so his main use will be to break down teams which are 'parking the bus' at CR or as an impact sub in away games. Naismith provides another option in the hole as does Andreu, if he stays. Maddison won't be 20 until November, so I think some people are expecting far too much, too soon from him. It's a big step up from League One to the Championship at that age and although he may get some playing time, he won't be starting many games.

If that's how things pan out, GE, there'll be a lot of delighted people in and around Norfolk <ok>
P.S. Isn't that what was said about Butterfield, when he first came here? <yikes>

Why are people expecting too much, how old is Dele Alli ? Assumidly we bought him to eventually to play in the PL, surely if he's going to get to that standard he should be playing at championship level next season.

Exactly and with us being in the Championship, let's hope AN sees enough in pre season so that he'll be part of the squad at least!!!

In the 3 years since his debut, Maddison has 16 starts and 19 sub appearances in League One. Alli is 20, but if Maddison can can achieve what Alli has done in his first year at Spurs I'll be celebrating along with you, but that doesn't happen all too often. He'll have the pre-season to get to know the other players (other than Jacob), but although I'm looking forward to seeing him in a City shirt, I'm not expecting him to be another Alli from the off.

That is a more reasonable expectation, IMO, Braveheart, and I'm hoping for the same for all of our younger players.

I agree with you, General. He's proven himself in the PL for two years and is just 24. £13-14 Mil would be better and it doesn't matter which team pays it.

Yes, I'm pleased to read this too. Do you reckon it would have been the same if Gary O'Neil hadn't left?
Tended to be an either / or when they were both at the club and fit.

I think we would have liked to have kept both. Depends if we can keep hold of Howson.

Reece Oxford to join Newcastle on loan next season. That could be a genius signing, bit of a risk though.

Apparently we have agreed a fee for Aaron Tshibola of Reading £2m. He is 21 and looks decent... but then that is youtube. Anyone know any Reading fans?

This from a Reading site: "Firstly, it is true Tshibola hasn't set the world alight for long periods of time, and is injury prone. But, when he has played he's shown the essence of a dependable and confident box-to-box midfielder, straight out of the academy, and with great potential. £2m just does not do this justice."

The injury referred to was a hamstring but he's fully fit now. A reasonable sounding deal if it happens, but I can't say I'm terribly excited about it.

    Hmmmm................

He'll be another one of these kids who will be out on loan to League 1 for the next few seasons.

At 21 he should be ready for first team action or we should not buy him. We already have several similar younger than he is, so he would be blocking their progress unless some are going.
