Fair enough. As a remainer, I'm happy if there is a shift in the polls, but obviously not the circumstances. There shouldn't even be a shift in the polls, as the incident doesn't make any difference to the question of whether it's best to stay in or not. Her death is an odd reason to switch your vote. I get that people may now associate Brexit with a more right-wing agenda, but I'm sure there are unsavoury characters on both side of the vote.

Ok, Jigsaw's post came across as a bit insensitive but I think the celebration was about the shift rather than the death of Jo cox causing that shift. No one would wish a death to cause a shift in public opinion on such an important issue. But shouldn't we accept it if an event however tragic reminded us of a few important truths? There is more that unites us than divides us. There is humanity and good in all races. Immigrants are not sub humans like some extremist groups keep saying on social Media. The policy of them and us and naked tribalism, nationalism and isolationism is folly. We have to work together. The drift of heavyweight main stream politicians like Gove, Boris IDS and others towards Farage to instill fear of immigration is shameful. People are starting to reflect. If the Leave can nakedly lie about an obvious figure of £350m/week (denounced by 99% of economists as wrong), what else are they lying about when they assert that Britain will flourish outside the EU. We have no evidence that the murder changed opinion. I think people are thinking that it is not such a bad idea afterall to be part of a larger community, even if it cost money, even if it allows some immigration (yes, more than we expected) and that immigration is not such a disaster the leavers want all of us to believe. And we have been reminded that we (and our politicians) can change things from within if they have the will and want it hard enough.
Boris's U turn. Video of Boris passionately wanting to stay in the single market as recently as 2013 after the referendum was announced has come out. Like he is passionately now saying it would be delusional to stay. The reasons for changing people are surmising is his not wanting the free movement of people. More cynical people would say the reason is because he is gunning for Cameron post.
If the legacy of her death ends up being the right result next week, then given she was a passionate EU supporter I'd say it would be very fitting.
Sad that she paid with her life. Winning the referendum in favour of "IN" should be dedicated to her.
Brian Cutice just on Sunday Politics said the polling organisations were reporting that 80% of the polls were in before Cox's assassination. The polls were shirfing anyway. Moot point though, imo, as Brexit will win 55/45 rather than 60/40 now. I won't use a sad smilie as I don't want to upset sensitivities (though it beggars belief that a massacre by a deranged Muslim in Florida is fair game for Brexit to use, but not the murder of a Remain MP here in the UK by a right-wing fanatic).
At this point in time I think it will be a narrow win for Remain. 2/3 of the undecided are more inclined to remain. The bookies are still odds on for remain. I think many people do not want to be associated with Farage.
Point Cutice made, very salient, is that Don't Knows who have said 'If pushed - I'd vote Remain' have been factored into the Remain vote in the poll that had them neck and neck. It's not 50/50, it's still nearer 45/41 Brexit. Only IF Mr Don't Know actually gets off his arse and votes will the Remain figure get higher.
Interesting that Boris is now calling for an amnesty for illegal immigrants (who have been here for more than 12 years). This is to prove that he loves immigrants he said Most of the crowd booed him. Now that the demonisation of the immigrants is being frowned upon, he is trying to distance himself from the likes of Farage. Yet only hours before the murder, his language on immigration was as far right as you possibly imagine! The man has no shame. These people wouldn't hesitate to stoop to anything and say anything to make people believe them. They also use the same blue Save our NHS placards used by the unions in their rallies. Leave to save the NHS when they are all rabid right wingers who would privatise the NHS without a second's hesitation
I think being seen to change your tune is not exactly good for credibility. I think either result what people should be worried about is the literally millions of the poulation that could be considered troubling at best and racist at worst. It's kind of mad really. The issue at hand is a big issue but the bigger on is the one that is following it.

In the days after Cox’s death the Conservatives, Liberal Democrats and Ukip all announced their intention not to stand in the by-election. However Jack Buckby, a member of Liberty GB, said Labour had “blood on its hands”, and there was “too much at stake” to allow them to retake Batley and Spen unchallenged.
