Amen to that - mine got a good sorting this weekend as well, I can actually find things now - scary... That's good odds. After the game against Millwall yesterday, I'm going down for the opener next week and I'm going to stay down for the League Cup game against Reading on Tuesday. Haven't felt so optimistic in a long time.
Good thread, Tewks. The bloke is just a small-minded pranny. I have a very good friend who has supported the Corinthian Casuals for the last 30 odd years. He not only attends every home match, but will also travel to the footballing hot-beds of Forest Row, Egham and Eastbourne to watch his beloved pink-and-chocolates play. I will have to check this, but I am sure Socrates played for them once and my friend got an autograph on his club tie. I have watched them a few times and they are fine club with a group of very loyal supporters. Even though my club, our club, is a giant compared to his, I would never ever consider belittling the followers of non-league clubs. They are the bed-rock on which football is footed and we owe a great debt to clubs like the Corinthian Casuals, who have been around since the 1880s and helped shape the game in its embryonic stages.
For reasons not required to delve into, i was feeling quite down the last day or so, ... then combined with a day off (bank holiday) and the reading of this thread i am feeling quite chipper ! Too many to quote, but some of the comments in here from both Cafc and other teams really gave me a lift, ignited the kindling inside me of the way i feel about football, brilliant lads !
I`m wih you on this Franco the palace shirt is an exception. Old Trafford...memories,my greatest OT moment was when under lennie we went up there and won 1 0 with "amos" himself mark stuart scoring the winner happy days
Thanks PEA - my Dad once told me that if a Casuals player was sent off, he'd immediately resign his membership and never play for them again...
I have fond memories of Corinthian Casuals. They were in the Isthmian league with Wycombe and we played them in an FA Cup semi final at Highbury. I was there. What a game that was; no substitutes then and at one stage we were down to 9 men and a goalkeeper who couldn't raise one of his arms above his head (injured when smashed against the goalpost in the opening minutes - I think that resulted in a goal but not sure). Somehow we managed to win 4-2. Can't remember the attendance but it put today's attendances to shame, as did the final against Bishop Aukland (we lost 3-1) at Wembley Stadium where 90,000 turned up to watch - an Amateur Cup Final, 90,000! I was among them with my family. Happy days.
I watched casuals a few times back in the 1970`s when they shared Tooting and mitchams sandy lane ground, the attendance back then was 100 at best, amazing they are still going.
