Considering he's scored 262 goals at club level and 52 goals at International level, a combined total of 314 goals, I don't think there's any justification to say he should always have been playing in midfield.
To be fair, I don't think anyone looks truly decent. Italy have probably looked the best so far but that was one game, let's see how they look after today when I don't expect a win. I'm thinking of a Croatia e/w bet.
Rooney has played well in this role for Man Utd during the run in at the end of the season, and the two games he has played there in this tournament for England he has been impressive, but I think teams will soon work out that if he is pressed and the space he occupies is closed down he is much less efficient. Both games he has been allowed space and time to pick out passes which he has been very successful at, however I somehow think that a `better` team then that we`ve played so far will closed down the space, and therefore render him less effective.
God I miss playing football (I'm 51). Played headers and volleys with the lads at work recently and even that was a joy.
Really, Happy? I don't think I can remember him being dispossessed or having a pass intercepted in either of our games so far!
Kinell, Sherlock - you could apply that logic to any footballer ever to have played the game, any currently playing, and any who will ever play in the future!
Oh man, I haven't played that game since I lived in England. Half forgotten how it works, all I know is I regularly had my ass hit.
