    Not sure of your logic on this one!!

    Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich, just to name three, are not in the Premier League and they are clearly betterer than you. And, therefore, so are we.

    You're suggesting they aren't better than Sunderland?

    I know it's going to take a long time but to me patience is a virtue

    EACH ONE OF THOSE TEAMS ARE IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE

    Please do not make it too difficult for me

    This is going to be painful.
    Notice my capital "P" and capital "L". I stated they were not in the Premier League and did not state premier league.

    Firstly, Barcelona and Real Madrid are in the La Liga. Secondly, Bayern Munich are in the Bundersliga. To the best of my knowledge neither La Liga nor the Bundersliga are called the Premier League but are in fact known as La Liga and the Bundersliga respectively. Also none of those teams are in the Premier League.

    Still following?

    Good.

    So when I say none of those teams are in the Premier League I actually mean none of those clubs are in the Premier League.

    I trust that I haven't used any words which are to long for you to understand but if I'm wrong on that then just let me know.

    Once you've had your dinner/tea/lunch or whatever of humble pie then please feel free to apologise.

    <cheers>

    Three points which strike me as relevant:

    1. More people will watch us play this season, even in our humbled state, than will watch Sunderland in the exalted heights of the Premiership;
    2. We will generate more media interest than will Sunderland, barring any further arrests for *****philia
    3. Tell any football fan in any bar in Madrid, Milan or Paris that you support Newcastle and they will immediately know what you are talking about. Mention Sunderland and you are likely to get a long, blank stare.

    This indicates to me that Newcastle is a more important club than Sunderland: it's existence is known to and of interest to more of the world than is Sunderland.

    Fredor will point out that Sunderland have at certain times in the past been more important than Newcastle. This may or may not be true. It is, however, rather like arguing that Spain is a superior global superpower to the United States on the basis that in the 16th to 18th centuries this was undoubtedly the case.

    Premiership every day - did he mean top league?

    If the question was promotion or a cup it has to be a cup - we will eventually get promoted again, I'm not convinced we will actually win anything in my lifetime.

    I hope you are not suggesting that in the English language if we use capital letters it changes the meaning, no I must have read that wrong even you would not do that

    Germany's premier rock band No 1 rock band in Germany
    Germany's premier football league the No1, best, top football league
    Spain's premier football league the No1 football league in Spain
    Englands premier football team Sunderland ( That could be wrong )

    It is wrong for an organisation like the English football league to be allowed to change a name without considering the confusion it would create in Newcastle, it is called a play on words, they used an adjective as a noun , not good English but expected to be taken as such, a car company could call themselves the Premier car company but that would not make them the best it is simply a NAME

    We still going around in circles on this one? Did people raise this particular point again just for this purpose?

    *sigh*

    I assume you know that you have indeed just highlighted exactly why the capital letter does make a difference Fredor? You are using it as an adjective in all of your examples whereas the use of capital letters does indeed refer to the title of The Premier League - which is a noun, a specific incorporated identity.

    I assume you understand the difference between a noun and an adjective? Can we move on from this now?
