It's been mentioned in our local press and I think he could be a very useful player to have in your team, especially if the rumours of who is likely to leave some true. You'll also need a larger squad with competing in Europe and if he continues to play as he did in Ireland's opening game, then I think he could very likely be in demand.

Just read this on Paddy's column today - Neil needs to shake things up. That much is evident. The deals for Steven Whittaker and Cameron Jerome is a signal he wants to perform minor surgery rather than wholesale changes. But an exit for Bassong would underline things will be different this time around.
I'd quite like to see him go, but we could be left with no cover for CBs if Klose decides to leave. Some interesting few weeks ahead.

    I agree with 1950, we focus on the championship because we can't attract a PL calibre player. We try to attract them again if/when we go up. What I don't agree with either of you on is that we are not favourites to go up. The bookies had (I haven't checked in a while) us as second favourites for promotion. I don't think enough has happened in the transfer market to have changed that. If we lose Redmond, Klose and Brady, then we really are returning to square one. Arguably our only remaining PL class players would then be; Olsson and Howson. So success for me is keeping first Klose and if possible Brady, though less important. And adding a couple of PL maybe quality players. I honestly think a team of;

    Ruddy
    Pinto Martin Klose Olsson
    Murphy Tettey Howson Jarvis
    Hoolihan
    Jerome

Has plenty enough to challenge for and maybe win a top two place. further depth is needed in positions like striker, but a bench of

Rudd Bassong Whittaker Dorrans Murphy Naismith Lafferty

    is not too shabby either.
And that excludes a number of the younguns who i haven't a clue whether they will be ready or not.

now if we are to lose any of those in the team and bench above then we must look to replace them with similar or better quality, but we are not in bad shape for a title tilt in my opinion.

    Bah!

I know we are waiting until after the Euros, but i thought we would have been linked with someone at least! All i have read has been aimed at good players being linked with moves away!

Personally I would be looking at,

    • Tom Ince would be a good replacement for Redmond.
    • Lewis Dunk would make a great partner for Klose (if we can keep him!)
    • Gayle (if we can get him) would be good... or failing that, perhaps break the bank for McCormack? He scores goals!
    • I would also consider trying to bring Bradders back (or looking for someone similar) to add some steal to the side!

Dont forget the other Murphy and Maddison. They could make an impact on the squad if given a chance. Though id like to see some new faces. We need to freshen things up. Our current squad SHOULD be ok to challenge next year... but we all know things are never that simple at Norwich

As fans yes our minds are only on next season, but the club if it's got any ambition needs to be looking further ahead and for us that means PL in the next couple of years.

We need at the very least to be constantly evolving and that for a football club means a constant turnover of players.

I worry that the club thinks that well we got out of the championship last time with these players, so we'll get out this time and I just don't think that's going to happen, nor are our ex youth winners going to do it for us. If we want to get back to the PL then we need to shake things up a bit and show more ambition.

IMO, the Turner and Whittaker extensions are a sensible provision of back-up for this season. If we are promoted, they will move on and we'll then bring in PL quality players to replace them. I think new players will come in, but not until others leave. The article below suggests possible replacements for Redmond. Of these, Gudmundsson, Ince and Cairney look like good options to me and hopefully the Murphys will get their chance as well.

I can see that too, but I think Martin is a perfectly capable centre back at Champ level, and I was thinking Ryben may move on following the speculation. But Ryben Klose would be a very good combo at champ level.

I'm not convinced i would want Ince. He is the same sort of frustraiting Redmond type who turns up once every 4-6 games. I live near derby and know a few season ticket holders who don't think much of him at all.

    Bah!

the thing is to think PL, you must first get out of the Championship without compromising yourself financially. The club will be looking further, but it is the players who are more difficult to predict. It's all very well saying we want to be in the PL next season so we'll buy PL players, but they won't come, not unless we take unwarrented levels of risk to secure them.
In terms of constant evolution, we need to keep improving but is it realistic to think that we can improve from a PL season to a championship season? With each player transfer, there are fees, bedding in periods, risks of failure. so constantly turning over players at too higher rate could be counter productive.
Last relegation we lost Snoddy and Fer. Both players who looked comfortable in the PL. This season Brady and TK are the players like Snoddy and Fer that if we hang onto means we have made progress. We lose them and it's back to square one.

But the existing players that are good champ level, why get rid? Add to with what quality we can, but why buy another player and incur the transfer costs that isn't/might not be/is fractionally better? If they are not PL standard then we have wasted money. And they are unlikely to be because otherwise a PL club will have bought them ahead of us.

    Bah!

I think they are both up to a season in the championship and can both see us to promotion. Ruddy is a concern for me too though. I don't see us improving on him significantly at this level though. not unless there is a young keeper who one of the big boys want to send out on loan.

I would try Rudd as #1 but buy in a 30 something ex prem keeper .
Also a sneaky bid for Gunn jnr from Manchester City .

Brady and Wisdom helped, but sadly it wasn't until January that Klose and Pinto came in. AN seems determined to see that the same mistakes don't happen again. Time will tell.

I also have my doubts about Ince, but of the others I'd choose Gudmundsson, who did very well for Charlton in the Championship last season. Having been relegated, though, they'll find it difficult to hang on to him.

I think the worst thing about signing Ince would be the attendance at FCR of his obnoxious father!

I think AN will have until October/November time.

If we are any less than top 4 pushing for an automatic promotion place it will be adios. I'm not saying that I agree with it but that's football these days.
