I imagine Bent, Rodallega, Dugarry, Gyan, Zaki, Jelavic, Wickham, Sessegnon,Long might disagree with you.
Yes but Rhodes was bought as a championship player from a championship club. There was nothing lucky about it
Abel H wax bought as a PL player from the equivalent of a Championship club from another country, where he didn't understand the language was travelling back & forth to Uruguay for Internationals & family reasons.
So had he scored goals in the pl Bruce would have got lucky, as it is he didn't and as you say he came from the equivalent league and scored goals in the championship so where's the luck?
I was just pointing out the situation with his settling in. Why does a player scoring in the PL mean SB got lucky? He signed Long, is that lucky?
If you read where this little discussion started I responded to chesireles who said Bruce got lucky with Abel. I said I couldn't see how buying a striker to score goals in the pl for £9mlion but didn't although he scored 20 odd in the league below was lucky. Long was a pl striker who scored goals (not prolific) and he did that for us so no luck there imo
No there wasn't, but Hernandez could've dropped down and not done anything. He'd never even played in this country, let alone it's second tier so it could have gone any number of ways.
as I said and you've agreed there's no luck involved and Bruce hasn't got lucky so far that's all I was disagreeing with. However if next season he scores goals then Bruce took a punt abels settled in so there's the luck
There wasn't any luck no. I think he will score goals, he's coming into his prime now and he's had a very confident boosting season. As has been said in the last couple of days/weeks/months, he needs a bit more quality around him and he'll be fine. Snodgrass has the right side covered, but I'd love to see a more pacey winger come in on the left for a bit of balance.
That's all I said in my first reply, as for the rest I agree with you 100%. If he scores goals in the pl then Bruce has got lucky with his punt but he needs better players around him and a system were he has someone alongside him
If Hernandez has a target man to play off then he can make it IMO in the EPL, if we play him as a lone strike then no.
I agree John, could he play in a 4231 if we could put a 3 together that were mobile and quick, so when the ball goes up to Abel the 3 behind him are able to support him quickly. You regulars know my thoughts on our current midfield but for me they aren't mobile enough and don't get forward quick enough
Interest is building up for Roofe, can he make the step up from League two? Would he be interested at 23 at coming back to a top flight club where he wouldn't be guaranteed a start?
