When he was at Man Utd there were quite a few Newcastle fans who said they wouldn't want Ronaldo! They used to say it was because of his diving and completely overlooked the fact that he was (and is) one of (probably the) best players in the world!! Was a few years ago mind. And I didn;t name names but I remember the arguments we had quite vividly as no-one could think of any reason other than his diving! You would've probably been on my side of the argument from your reaction but I know for certain that a number of Newcastle fans said they didn;t want him!

Id be surprised if it wasn't said tongue in cheek, we're not all deluded you know, despite what you lot think. <laugh>

Looks like you had a good day at sol <ok>. If you'd played Sunderland, I would have had a fiver on you to win.

Newcastle signed Hugo Viana instead, he was rated better than Ronny. <laugh>

He`s been in the game long enough to know teams play to their own strengths. They`re not there to accommodate him.

Everyone expected them to tear Iceland apart and they couldn`t do it.

    Sour grapes.

They wouldn't open the betting kiosks before the game - I told our lass to put a fiver on us as we were playing against the red & whites!

Given what he does off the park I find it hard to say he's a cock, floods in Madeira, paying for kids ops, prize money to charity, he's a bit of a diamond like.

He does react badly to losing, but then if you're unreal at something and a weaker part fails you, then pure gonna lash out at something else.

I do say he isn't at the level he was like, I don't think the stats hide that, you can see it with your own eyes.

Not what he was but still top 4 in world without a doubt.

Is that Zlatan Abromavich (as Monty called him!)? Arrogant? Nahh!!!

There is an air of arrogance about a lot of top sports people. Tiger Woods was one of the most arrogant ever! Some people need it to be "that player" I also think if some of the top people had more arrogance they'd probably be better than they got to be!

Also - I'll try to post more anti-Messi stuff to even things up.

    Messi's a **** by the way

Good footballer; bad loser; bit of a knob. Can say the same of many in the Premier League...

I've had a quick look through his stats from the last 4 seasons, they've barely moved.

Admittedly I don't watch all of Real Madrid's games, but I can't notice him dipping at all I think people might be getting carried away with his previous season, obviously it'd be ridiculous if he kept up that rate of goals in La Liga.

I don't think giving money to charity when you're already crazy rich necessarily has any bearing on personality. Especially when you're a brand like he is with his own PR people.

I'm probably being uncharitable to him (ironically) and besides it doesn't matter why he gives the money as long as he does. Sure as hell beats Messi's tax fraud.

You must hold really high standards in life Nads.

Ronaldo is still at the top of his game in his domestic and european games.

He just hasn't done it on the World stage, probably because the quality around him can't help bring out the best in him.

There are many english players for whom the same could be said of.

Oh he's a bad sportsman mate, in that sense. He shouts at his own players all the time and goes in a flap if they don't pass him the ball, like an 11 year old kid who thinks he's a boss. If he was **** and did stuff like this, like Balotelli, it'd be ridiculous to me, but it's part of his game, petulance.

He was the same at school and growing up, his own mother used to call him a 'Big Baby' or something similar.

His manner though, his demeanor. It winds people up but it makes me laugh. Find it hard to hate him cause of this. Balotelli, another petulent dummy spitter. Winds folk up but I think he's great. <laugh>

Ronaldo has definitely lost a bit. He's playing more as a forward now so is still banging in the goals and his passing and crossing is still good.

What he's lost a bit of is that pure athletiscm. In the past you would see him go past players so easily through strenght skill and speed. Nowadays he's lost that and so he can't be the 1 man wrecking crew that he was
