Now I dislike Piers Morgan as much as every human should, but his comment "inspired by ISIS, enabled by the NRA" was spot on.
Sad news that a Northern Ireland fan has died in Nice. RIP http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-36515775
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-36516006 A court in Qatar has convicted a Dutch woman of having sex outside marriage after she told police she was raped. The 22-year-old was handed a suspended sentence and fined $824 (£580). She will also be deported. Her lawyer said her drink had been spiked at a Doha hotel in March and she had woken up in a stranger's flat, where she realised she had been raped. Her alleged attacker, who said the sex was consensual, was sentenced to 100 lashes for having sex outside marriage. He will be given a further 40 lashes for consuming alcohol. Just incredible isn't it. 140 lashes for the alleged attacker, and being arrested and fined for her.
Yes, he was obviously very upset. I think the point which the others were trying to make, rather insensitively, was that whilst this was undoubtably a homophobic attack and that the victims were undoubtably targeted because of their sexuality, Jihadis have targeted many groups of people for "unislamic" activities. The Bali nightclub, the schools educating women, the Bataclan theatre, attacks targeting Jews, the list is almost endless. It's reasonable to note the common thread here (radical Islam) but to brush off the attack as merely another like the others so soon after it happened was clearly more than he could take.
I propose the Hallelujah Chorus for when it goes through. Not so much because I will be enthusiastically happy, but you can start planning the rest of your life after a funeral.
That soon? It was mainly a reference to the papers "next 24 hours" tag line. It would be ironic if it was all completed on the 20th June, what with Ron's heroic attempt to get out of Europe. Edit: hang on. DDay was 6th June!
Longest day is a reference to the D Day landings- which were in the 6th June. Don't know where the 20th came from.
Longest day is unusually early this year. Normally 21st June. Earth wobbles mean that the Sun may well set later for a few days afterwards, just rise later. Haven't looked it up for this year. I was thinking of going upto Stonehenge for the Sunrise on the longest day. Done it before and it was fantastic. Better than I thought it would be.
Just an example of how my twisted mind works, whenever I see the local TV coverage of the summer solstice at Stonehenge, in my head I can hear Alec Guiness saying, "these aren't the Druids you're looking for..." But then the force has a powerful effect on feeble minds
