As we have a decent amount of interest in this tournament and to save the Non-Watford football thread from taking a sharp turn I thought it might be an idea if we kept it separate.
Well England actually played well but didn't get the win. Don't want more hard luck stories against Wales so a scrappy 1-0 will do! Actually been a good start to the tournament - on the field anyway.
Anyone know why Vardy wasn't playing? I thought the game was crying out for someone with his pace & skill - instead England seemed content to pass the ball sideways and backwards, making for a somewhat boring 'spectacle'.
I don't think Roy likes him actually - shoved the bloke out wide when he was playing.. We were relying on the wing backs to get forward which they did well for 60 minutes or so.
But with a distinct lack of punch up front. I know it must be hard being a national team manager, but surely the game was crying out for at least one of Vardy, Sturridge or Rashford to come on with 20 or 30 minutes to go? Bringing on Milner for 3 minutes seemed pointless to me.
I saw somewhere that Vardy's wife was teargassed before the Russians attacked the English, can find no confirmation though!
Couple of cracking goals today: Luka Modric and Bastien Schweinsteiger take a bow. I thought CC had a decent performance in a very disappointing Northern Ireland showing overall. Unconvincing security and a seeming inability to temper passion before it becomes violence threaten to mar the tournament. Russia for the world cup? Are you kidding me?!
Simple ball in - simple header from Spain wins them the game after dominating the game in their usual style. Sometimes football doesn't have to be so pretty!

Just a few quotes here from Igor Lebedev (the Vice President of Russia) - ' I can't find anything bad in football fans fighting, well done and keep it up' followed by 'It was not the fault of the fans but due to the incompetence of the police` and worse follows ' They have defended the honour of their land and not allowed the English fans to put down their country'. To send the World Cup to this excuse of a country is plain madness !
