I agree with that bit Wandy. I'm a tad more cynical.

This would be my one concern. Anyone would want to avoid taking a pay cut and whilst I can't see him getting £100k anywhere I can see him holding out for as much as he can get. With the new TV deal you may be better off offering him towards the mark he's looking for and making his decision easy as I can envisage another club doing so. Once you add in there's little to no transfer fee then even £40k per week extra (to take wages from 50 to 90k region) for 5 years is just £10m extra money - a player like that would cost you more than that anyway.

ps. Lorik Cana. I don't watch as much Sunderland as you do (understandably) but I thought he looked a better DM from what I saw.

He had questionable objectives, but so do many other players... like Ramirez, who's ****ed off to China.

A greedy agent and a flash of the cash, that's all it takes to see promising youngsters flush their competitive careers away. He looks back on track now at least, fair play to him.

It's true, if we want to sign better quality players then at some point we're going to have to spend more than we'd like on wages. I think if we offered him somewhere in the region of 70 or 80k he might go for it, not sure he'll be getting lots of offers for significantly more.

Ps. are you saying Cana is a better midfielder than M'Vila? Can't agree with that like, he has a great heart and is a tough lad but he's not the most gifted. Judging by his two stupid yellows the other day his decision making hasn't improved either. Maybe I misunderstood you.

Frankly, off pitch his entire career he's been a complete money grabbing trouble making ****er. But no problems reported last season so lets hope he's matured and realised he's been ****ing his own career up.

Much much better ball player than Cana. Defensively not as good no but we've got Kirchhoff for the main defensive responsibilities. But as far as a bread and butter all round CM he's the best we've had by a mile for a very long time. Sam will keep him as our holding mid and let Kirchhoff do the defensive closing.

Whilst I think you're right... Why not? If we get him in on a permanent deal he's worth that £100k a week IMO. It's not something we've ever done but we need to show our intentions.

If we sign him for peanuts as well and he is as good as he was the season just gone, it'll be worth every penn.

Maybe give him a hefty signing on fee if that amount is no good.

Is he as good as fletcher and Danny Graham out together? Hell yeah!!

Because our wage bill is already over 60m we can't increase our wage bill more than 4million a season due to FFP. Yeah we got a lot off the books but we're still in a sticky financial situation meaning we still have be very careful on wages. We may be able to afford it but it would could risk or restrict getting all our targets in, especially if most of our targets are to improve the starting line up. Those free wages from the outgoings could be taken up very quickly within a couple of signings. If we stay up this season hopefully we'll be close to seeing the back of the penny pinching.

I'm not sure what the penalties would be to break the FFP rules, but to sign the right players, like M'Vila, I might consider it worth the risk to help stabilise the club whilst we unload all those underachievers from the last few seasons, and free up the wages bill for higher quality players.

I know this is unrealistic and totally naive, but how do other clubs seem to manage it?

And just to add, a little worm crawling around my brain, if we're close to our wage limit already, with all the lower-paid underachievers we already have on the wage bill, how are we supposed to sign a full squad of better players on higher wages, under the same wage limit? Is it even possible?

What are the punishments as Bournemouth and at least 2 others got punished for breaching ffp with a fine in the tens of thousands past season I thought? May be wrong though but a <£100k fine for breaching ffp is nothing if it helps us finish higher in the table.

No idea how it all works though tbh

Also. Fletcher and Graham are off the books. Pretty sure that's £100k a week or so so I'm not sure exactly how it would put us under pressure with ffp? You're normally more clued up on stuff like this than me mind

Another edit... Thus season we paid 35k a week for mvila. Approx 50k a week each for Graham and Fletcher or a big chunk towards it. (Think we paid 80% of Graham and 70% of fletchers) so let's say 75k a week for those 2 and 35k for mvila. £110k a week gone means we're 500k lower by giving him that?

This i s far too confusing for me

It was Ellis' vision, he helped devise it and put it in place. He won't just **** it off. He'd look a right mug.

Ah I forgot about that! But my last edit n the post you quoted (like **** off a stick you aren't ya!) I'm not sure about. We surely have to be at least 5m down on that £60m with Graham, Fletcher and mvila off the books now from last years bill

our last wage bill was 68 million fella. that was for the 2014/15 season (up 8m on the 13/14 season) , we won't see this season's until next may(which is why we can only guess), but when you consider we we paying part of Giacc, fletcher, gomez, bridcut, buckley, vergini, Coates and Grahams wages while they out on loan and we only managed to move Connor and Pants off the wage bill permanently during the windows makes me suspect that the wage will have gone up again. Fletch and Graham leaving will help but the dead wood is still in abundance and still wasted wages straining the books. Until our squad is streamlined and the wage budget isn't being strained I don't think we'll be offering anywhere near 100k pw to a player.

Side note, he's not worth the wages anyway. he was on 100k pw for a lucrative payday. He's had it. There won't be a club outside Russia, China and the US who'll pay him anywhere near that imo.

<laugh> Says the person who took a dig at me in the last thread he posted, even stating it was with the intention of winding me up(and failing miserably). You can't make this **** up. You're both as bad as each other man. Little bairns.
