Thanks for the updates folks. A disappointing pre-season results wise, but I never read much in to anything until the the season is ten games old( an old GT pearl of wisdom). Enjoy the rest of your weekends.
jonmwfc Jon Marks #watfordfc boss Sean Dyche has just described first-half performance at Colchester as unacceptable.
I know we don't want to play badly/lose in the first place but its a good thing Dyche seems more than happy to come out and not hide behind some sort of excuses for them like Malky did quite a bit. My concern is that we don't have an easy start and if we're not scoring against League One sides how will we do against strong defences. Knowing us probably win 5-0!
I wasnt at the game today but it looks as though we're missing a bit of creative flair in central midfield - playing Jenkins/Prince with Eustace is all well and good, but any combination of those 3 players will offer little going forward. Lets hope Dyche can work a bit of magic in the loan market and get us another Jordan Mutch...
Someone in the Cowie mode! good news, we have one at the club already , bad news he wont be fit till xmas!
I hope u hornets play beta in the league than u did today otherwise I fear for u. Although The U's did play alright
Morning Rob , thats what were hoping to! Although there has been a lot of upheavel this summer, we need to hit the ground running, and on yesterdays showing that looks unlikey By the way welcome to the watford board and best of luck to CU this season!
There's no way to dress the result or (by the sounds of it) the performance up as a good thing. But even if stop-start results carry into the start of the season (what we can really expect from Burnley away and West Ham at home before the transfer window shuts?), Dychey has built a squad that I believe can fight for the entire nine months. For all the good football that the youngsters played at the start of a season under Malky, come the end of February it was always clear that we were running out of steam. But at the same time it's not as if we have suddenly built a squad that can only do hoofball. Outside of the first choice eleven (for me that's Loach; Doyley, Mariappa, Taylor, Dickinson; Yeates, McGinn/Buaben/Walker, Eustace, Forsyth; Deeney/Sordell, Iwelumo), only Jenkins and Mirfin can be described as players you wouldn't necessarily associate with good football, and both of them are defensive anyway.
As last year we need to get off to a good start and build some confidence and then go from there. If we are at the bottom by November then its going to be a long hard struggle. I believe though we will be mid table and a good centre forward will be just the thing we need to compliment the squad and fire us up the table. We need to make the Vic a fortress and nick a few away points.
Funny, i like Mirfin, but i agree with you. i think we can do better this season than last, as long as the team starts to play as a team.
