Racing post headline reads.... Wondermare Goldikova does it again at top level
comments include, superstar, fantastic,inspirational,pro performance, it just goes on and on
 
How am I being Immature, name me the top horses Goldikova has beat? You know and I know she mops up the weak G1s year in year out, yet when she faces a 125+ rated horse she gets beat everytime.

She is consistently very good, but she is not capable of running to the level of form a great horse is, she couldnt even beat Canford Cliffs, and I wouldn't describe CC as anywhere near great:biggrin:
 
I think I agree with Shergar on Goldikova. She can win all the mediocre G1's in France but when it comes to squaring off against 'Brilliant' horses she is firmly put in her place. Canford Cliffs and Zarkava just to name two. Good horse but not the messiah of the racing world...

I think if she raced Canford Cliffs again she would be comfortably beaten again. Frankel on the other hand would be in the paddock before she finished!

As for Canford Cliffs not being great Shergar, I think he is one of the best milers I've seen...
 
Only Zarkava has firmly put her in her place.No disgrace there.No other horse has done it.And i certainly dont accept CC and Makfi as having the overall edge on her with one victory over her.

And the rest is pure speculation.
 
Rip van Winkle, Paco Boy, Gio Ponti, Darjina, Byword, Ramonti, Henrythenavigator, Natagora - all won G1 races and were beaten by Goldikova. She probably had a decent excuse for not winning the Queen Anne this year - Olivier Pesslier carried 2 lbs overweight
 
She beat a half fit RVW making his debut of the season where he was tailed off, whilst her win over HTN was very suspect. HTN ran about a stone below form on soft ground, he wasn't even 2nd. For what it's worth I still would rate Goldikova higher than RVW, but she wouldn't have beaten HTN on anything other than soft ground. Don't even get me started on the rest of those trees you listed, didnt Debussy beat Gio Ponti, just before Goldikova did? Great form eh.

Istabraq can look beyond hero worship, and look at Goldikova's form objectively, and her form is that of a very good horse, but nowhere near a great horse:biggrin:

twice she did,but one was over 1m2.5f .she went to the lead past the mile point and then had was one paced,classic example of a non staying performance.

the other run was the french 1000,but how immature and strop pywas goldi that day?reluctant to load,threw the jockey of,stumbled out the gates and yet still ran a great race against after going up from ordinary races to group 1 class!
 
Must keep objectivity here- this debate has become pointless!
Let's face it, quality in any horse- or sporting personality for that matter- is not just about the ability to beat all-comers 'out of sight' whenever a contest is staged.
Consistency, durability, longevity , and genuineness are temendously important factors when assessing a horse's worth- or place in history.
Goldikova has not been heavily raced, based on total 24 racecourse appearances- this is almost half what Dahlia and Triptych had contested at 6 years old.
Nonetheless, she has not been closeted either, and her record needs no excuses.
She is a wonderfully consistent and genuine mare who deserves her place in history. The fact that Frankel would almost certainly beat her is irrelevant in the light of her achievements.
Personally- and I've voiced it several times before- racing would be far richer with a few more Goldikovas knocking about.
Top horses do far too much breeding and not enough running, for my money.

I would agree, to a certain extent, with both sides of this argument.

I would agree that she is a great horse for a remarkable longevity and consistency. But she is not a great horse on her raw ability alone. She turns in top performances time after time, year after year. But when she comes up against a really top class horse she is found wanting. That is not to detract from her legacy and the enjoyment that she has and is giving us.

She wouldn't be the best mare or miler ever, but her record ensures that she will be remembered as one of the great racemares of all time.
 
I fully agree that her consistency is remarkable, particularly as she gets dragged over to America every year, yet she still runs to form. Alot of horse's would struggle to produce the goods after such a long journey. It would be nice to see her go for the QE2, before the Breeders Cup, not sure Freddie Head would risk her 3 weeks before the BC, nor do I think he would fancy his chances of upsetting Frankel, but who knows, he might be tempted with the £million prize money on offer :biggrin:

Goldikova - great and consistent horse and well done n thanks to those who have kept her in training!

Any horse that wins 14 group 1's is a legend. Name me a few horses that have won 14 group 1's?
 
Cyc don't forget John Henry with 16, Wenona Girl with 15, Forego 14 (I'm quoting Wikipedia here).

John Henry I guess could be classed a legend.
I've never heard of Wenona Girl, Kingston Town, Sunline and Manikato but these seem to be all southern hemisphere horses (sorry Cyc). Legends? I don't know.

I don't mind if people want to call Goldikova a legend tbh - but I really don't think she is the most popular horse in training right now. If Frankel were running at Ascot and Goldikova at Newmarket, I strongly suspect most folk would be heading to Berkshire.
