You would think that after the Paris attacks that getting a flare gun and a thunder flash type loud explosion into the stadium would be tricky. Just goes to show its all there on a plate for Isis again

Started off OK, but soon degenerated into predictable Guardian anti English, anti football fan, metropolitan ****e.
Vast majority of England fans in France are post Euro 96 types, used to police and stewards nipping trouble in the bud and unused to the anarchy you get in Marseilles. They posture like the fans of the 80s and 90s and sing the songs, but that's where the resemblance ends.
Been told this morning some over 60s City fan had his flag nicked and was battered on his own at the table where he was drinking by Soviet toughs half his age. Bellied, bevvied and wellied......that's how Igor and Ivan see our fanbase.

    From Olms article.
I dont like it if Russkies are attacking innocents, the police need to protect them. But if its willing combatants then good they came for trouble. They got it. By the look of it the Russians are fit as **** and well roided up while the English look pissed and out of shape.

said it earlier theres thousands of peaceful England fans there to enjoy and have a good time. Some have gone to posture and abuse people and use a bit of intimidation. Its backfired on them.

"It must be acknowledged that the worst of Saturday’s violence came when a highly organised gang of 200 Russian fans caused mayhem when they stormed the English contingent in the old port, leaving several injured and one clinging to his life.

Yet England fans appeared far from blameless. A combination of all-day drinking, a large contingent of boisterous younger fans – some perhaps travelling with England for the first time – and an undeniable minority of hardcore troublemakers led to a toxic brew.

There will be understandable reluctance to apportion blame until the full facts are known. Some will blame heavy handed police tactics, others Russian provocation. Some will question why an already potentially problematic clash was scheduled in Marseille in the first place.

But perhaps it is also time for the wider contingent of England fans to honest about the fact that colonising a central point, draping it with England flags and aggressively bellowing “No surrender to the IRA”, “10 German bombers”, “If it wasn’t for the English you’d be krauts” and “**** off Europe, we’re all voting out” with beery belligerence is in itself an act of aggression."

Russians still mostly do national service unless in Uni, and it's a macho society very different from here. I lived there for a good few years, and wouldn't piss about near Russian football fans.

Yeah good fair write up. Putting England in Marseille not wise. But maybe the French have short memories . It's turned into a bear pit

The Russian thugs came for one thing and it wasn't football.

    From the guardian

"Thugs wearing black T-shirts carried bum bags containing equipment for assaults, including gum shields, fighting equipment and mixed martial arts gloves when they arrived in Marseille on Saturday afternooon"

Shame whoever saw this didn't tell the police or take some photos to hand over to the authorities.....

Then again this is the Guardian, which is not a newspaper known for truthful or honest journalism.
I can imagine local liberal Europhiles in greater Marseille will have been incensed by people singing " **** off Europe, we're all voting out" . Is it any wonder it all then kicked off?
I wonder if it was the same tune as "Not enough died" sung at the City-QPR game in 2005. (Remind me of the tune again?)

Last night N. Ireland and Poland fans were attacked by French locals in Nice.

It's not just Marseille where the French locals have a load of ****s, then.
