Does it work, and has anybody used this sort of medication to help them to calm down in stressful times

Alternatively, is it better to just 'have a drink'

We all suffer from varying forms, and levels, of stress (don't we) and I don't know anybody who uses the aforementioned tablets, but it seems to be pretty common to 'hit the bottle' in such times <cheers>

Some people have more of a need to calm down than others, and it's probably good that I don't outwardly show my feelings, but I am a 'bottler' when sometimes I feel that I should just 'let it go' (no reference to Frozen intended) . . . . but I can't, and I suspect that this is probably not good for my health :emoticon-0138-think

Some people resort to taking it out on others, with some accepting that this is just their way of coping with whatever stress they have at the time, but how should we/what's the best way to cope . . . . what's worked for you

I'm fortunate, I rarely get stressed these days but if I do I find my own space and have a couple of quiet beers, on my own, so that I can regain some perspective on things.

I won't go anywhere near those 2 drugs though. If a GP prescribed them for me I'd make him eat the prescription!

I plan to finish off my shed tomorrow (internal fibre glass insulation behind plywood - then Cuprinol treatment the same as the outside) so I'll be able to hide in there after the weekend . . . . I'm looking forward to it being habitable :emoticon-0100-smile

I wonder if I should make it sound-proof so that I can scream a bit :emoticon-0136-giggl

Yep they work for anxiety. Prefer Tramadol to be honest. Both addictive apparently. But I've always been able to kick any drug but tobacco, withdraw doesn't really effect me. I'm taking it for mania though not anxiety. But it does work for anxiety. Don't take it for stress though. That would be like trying to create a picture hole with a oil drill, too big a tool for the job. If doctors are prescribing it for stress they're probably an unethical, irresponsible, cowboy on a commission.

If it's just stress I recommend some acupuncture.

I went for my annual check up last week.
All was going well until he stuck his index finger up my bum.
Do you think I should change my dentist.

I needed tranquilizers about 30 years ago to go to the dentist, but not now if getting a tooth out 2 special brews an hour before does the trick !. My auntie used to pull her own teeth out she was crap scared of the dentists.

I like the quote of George Carlin : Life's not that complicated. You wake up, have 3 meals, one good **** and go to bed.

I was prescribed it for back pain. Pain only lasted a few days and I continued to enjoy the drug for a few days after that.

Exercise is a good one for relieving stress, I don't think I've ever been pissed off after a proper game of footy apart from that one year that I played in a 5-a-side team that lost every game badly. Weightlifting helps too as if you're doing it right it takes every ounce of energy and leaves you drained but relaxed.

Other than that I used to unwind after work with a joint, no matter how stressed I was when I took the first drag it all melted away. It was almost magical. I don't smoke anymore so it's spirits picking up the slack these days. Not a good long term solution but what can you do, life is stressful.

Valium is extremely addictive and causes more problems than it solves..

All I would say is if you need help, take it,no matter what form it takes. Whether it be medication, drink, talking, solitude or whatever.
Let nobody convince you that what you're doing is the wrong option
