Just got back from the gym - it'll be my last visit to this particular one.

I was coming to the end of my session, wearing my Llanera white away top, when the gym owner, presumably to impress the lycra-clad nubile he was 'personal coaching' said "did you buy that to go to a fancy dress party?" I said I was thinking more of a promotion party and with the words "you wanna get yourself one of these" rolled up his sleeve to reveal, yes you guessed it, the badge with the little Red Devil.

    Pathetic.

Why is it supporters of successful teams feel they've got the right to insult supporters of teams not as successful as they are and belittle the quality and commitment of their support, especially when I suspect that the vast majority of these 'supporters' have never been within sniffing distance of their heroes' grounds? Don't know about you, but I always respect other teams colours and the right of people to wear them without ridicule.

Anybody got any views on this?

I hear what you're saying mate. But surely not Palace...?

The mere sight of their strip causes my mouth to go all watery, as if I'm going to be sick.

I usually flip at things like this. Would have told him where to get off- I don't mind banter, but the guy just sounds like a ****.

It is pathetic how the fans of bigger more successful teams view us - as you say Tewks you've gotta give respect to fans like us who can turn up week after week when we're constantly losing (i.e. the seaon we were relegated from the Championship)

They turn round and ask us if we've no ambition yet to win the argument you only ever have to ask how many games they manage to attend in a few seasons for them to go rather quiet.

Have to admit though for us to get out of this league we do have to respect the smaller clubs ourselves, (i.e. when we beat Yeovil in February, Michael Slater turned round and made a comment about Yeovil's facilities when really its the 11 men on the pitch who do the real talking)

Maybe if we ourselves stop with this attitude the smaller clubs wont have fuel to put in a performance to beat us

Yeah, even Palace, Franco - I've just never seen the game in terms of individual rivalries between teams, I know it's probably an unusual view but I've always perceived our greatest rival to be the next team we're playing.

Yes, maybe 30 years ago I would have SC, but as I've got older I've learned that treating people like this as a complete irrelevance is a more satisfying and longer lasting solution. Besides, he's just lost 350 quid a year because he can't keep his mouth shut, how stupid is that?

No doubt you handled it correctly- I just agree that things like this really wind me up.

Should have pointed out that you've seen united more than he ever will.

Can't be a United fan, far too close to Manchester. Frankly it's far more interesting being a Charlton fan than a United fan this summer... we have 13/14 new players to look at, they have a rumour that they may or may not sign Wesley Sneijder...
If they come second, their season will be a disappointment, every draw is a bad result, there's no joy in a win except against the top few. Whilst it could be said our expectations aren't a million miles from that this year, we get to witness a new squad develop and make a difference, rather than bleating on about how many years Giggs has got left.
Give me the Addicks any day of the week and twice on a Sunday (or a Saturday, I hate Sunday games).

That's probably right, SC - I've been to Old Trafford eight times (I was seconded up there for four months in 2000), I suspect that's eight times more than him. :emoticon-0100-smile

Including the Schmeichel sending off game in the cup? That was a great cup tie. Best game against United was the 3-3 at home, though.

I have a theory that you can only consider yourself a true football supporter if you have been through relegation with your club, suffering week by week despair and yet still dragging your sorry behind to the ground in the faint hope that a miracle will occur and you team will win.

Fans of the big clubs - most of them anyway - think that heartbreak is losing one Champions League final. Although I'm sure it hurts, it is nothing like the relentless pain of relegation, of which they have no idea.

The guy at the gym is an example of the kind of people who litter the country with their Man U shirts, who would go nowhere near Old Trafford if United weren't do successful. I hate them so much.

Wow, I can consider myself a true, true, true, true, true football supporter then... actually that's kinda depressing!

Just wait for the high of L1 to European qualification in 3 seasons... that'll teach 'em.

We are a small team but we hope to get bigger. We may get smaller; we may almost disappear but our fans, me included, will always be faithful supporters of Wycombe Wanderers. I've supported Wycombe from the days of the Isthmian League, since when we have some real ups and downs. Makes no difference to us, we are loyal.

I agree that so many of the Premier club supporters would probably switch their allegiance if the teams became failures or went into administration; because they have no real roots.

"...because they have no real roots."

    Absolutely, Ron.

Some of these people just don't have a clue. I helped cut weeds taller than myself down to get the ground and the pitch ready for our return to The Valley after our exile and this idiot thinks a fifty quid tattoo makes him a supporter for life - give me strength.
