I Agree with that - but wouldn;t offer him the 4 or 5 years people are talking about. Give him a couple of years but clause it so it is dependant on fitness. He is a class player and I love watching him play the game - him and M'Vila were awesome last season but it's not worth signing someone that injury prone on a lnog term deal - the 2 year extension would give us a bit of cushioning if anyone came sniffing
Sam apparently wants him - to be honest, I'd certainly have him back. He improved massively second half of the season and the last few games he was starting to look a more capable right back. If there's better out there for the money then fine but Billy Jones or Yedlin? Jones wouldn't start (regardless of his goal against the mags!)
Kirchhoff is must for a new contract. I think a 2 year extention would give us the security without risking what has been an ongoing injury flop for most of his career. Talks of 5 years could lead to a player on the books for 6 years on a high wages while spending most of the time on the physio bench. He's talented no doubt, but we need to protect ourselves against a very real risk.
