Rumours that we are close to signing Dutch striker Vincent Janssen for 15m Euros and that he was in London on Tuesday to discuss the move. Scored lots of goals in Holland but my mother could do that. Let's hope we're not passing up quality elsewhere to sign Kezman Mk II on the cheap. Please let's get this right!

Yeah it's so hit and miss when signing strikers from the Eredivisie. Although we have had very good luck with imports from the Dutch league in recent seasons, Jan, Nacer and Eriksen all came from there while Dembele and Toby also had spells prior to moving elsewhere. I feel the Eredivisie is the perfect stepping stone to the Premier League, it's just making sure we get the players at the right time for them to take that next step and not going too early which can end up going badly.

Janssen does look really good from what I've seen and the fee of £12m/ €15m is very reasonable for a prolific, young striker so if he comes over and does the business for us it'll be seen as a wonderful bit of business. It's funny that many (myself included) thought Poch, Perez and Mitchell were watching Shane Long the other week when it now seems it was Janssen they had their eye on if reports are accurate. I'll start believing the rumours once Dutch media really pick up on it though, there's a few whispers but when they fully report a deal being close to completion it's usually bang on, I specifically remember they got the Gomes, Chadli and Eriksen ones way before English media had a sniff.

Sky Sports understand Janssen spent Tuesday with Mauricio Pochettino in London discussing the club’s plans for the future.
Looks very promising and fits with the young skilful creed that Poch is building

Here's hoping we don't play silly buggers by trying to haggle fee or wages, lets just thrash out a deal, get him in before pre-season and let Poch work on him to get him prepared for the coming campaign.

Have to admit I don't follow Dutch football whatsover (Spain and Germany get most of my non-PL attention, followed by 5-aside tournaments, followed by not-606, followed by my wife and children.). However, I would like to think that after more than a year of searching for Mr Right, Levy and Poch have a very good idea of who they want? Near misses with Berahino and Dembele surely served to hone us in on specific targets rather than the 'carpet-bomb' approach of the Baldini era?

If we're moving ahead, this is quite smart for two reasons: firstly we get some cover for Kane, something we obviously needed last season, and secondly the Dutch failing to qualify for the Euros means there's no distractions and certainly less chance of a transfer auction kicking off.

I do wonder if he's the only Dutch player we'll be signing this summer, given the links to Bazoer, El Ghazy and (most recently) Quincy Promes in recent weeks.

Quincy Promes? He must be over 80 by now! Produced some of the biggest selling singles of all time. Multi-talented though if he does soccerball as well!

Are we still interested in Herz van Rental?

Youtube clip of his goals and assists last season, as is the custom:

**** music, as is also the custom.
Wears number 18 and his notable weakness is his positioning on offsides? Sounds familiar...

I'm not seeing anything amazing here, barring his strength and the fact that he's scored a lot in a relatively poor league.
Doesn't look particularly quick or skillful, but I guess you could say the same about Kane.
Don't see them as an obvious pairing, either.
If we do sign him, then I hope he's not our only incoming striker.

My view exactly. This potential signing worries me. I envisaged us signing a quickie who can finish - Morata, Lacazette or Batshuayi or similar and I bloody well hope we still do. It's the thing we don't have and would give our game an added dimension. If we have the option of a line-up of :

    Lacazette or Batshuayi

    Alli/Eriksen Kane Lamela

Given how fluid those players are with their positioning and movement and a couple of additions elsewhere (a top quality alternative to Lamela who offers a greater goal per game ratio), that's progress and a line-up with a real goal threat.

Come on Spurs. To Dare is to Invest.

Sebastien Rode has told Bild that we made a bid for him, but he decided to join Bartra and Dembele III at Dortmund. I'm trying to work out which is more irritating: the Spammers declaring an interest in any player we're tracking, or Dortmund gazumping us three times in a month.

Janssen reminds me of Kane in some ways - 2 good feet, passable in the air, reasonably strong in terms of strength and speed (though those physical attributes can be worked on of course). What seems to set him apart, as with Kane, is a striker's instinct and movement, which bodes well for a young player. I've seen little of him though so I'd hesitate to crow too much! But we'd be silly to write him off when he bears similarity in so many ways to Kane.

It strikes me that if we sign the kid (and £12m would be a pretty good price for him considering age and the season he's just had IMO) then we're looking to continue to develop our current way of playing rather than sign a striker who can play a different way. I guess we'll keep looking at Clint as a 9 as we did occasionally last season if we want sheer pace as an option up front, unless Levy really cracks and buys TWO strikers in a window.

I don't like these constant Wanyama rumours. He's a proper card magnet for a start and really I've never been a massive fan. I could see him costing us a pretty penny too.

I've seen a bit more of Vazquez from Palermo and he is a handy player, but I'm not sure €25m handy. Zamparini (Palermo chairman) mouths off all the time though to be fair so the fee he's spouting off about could be smoke and mirrors, though some quality players have come away from the club in recent years for good money so he could be serious. He'd be a good addition but not at that price at his age I reckon.

I could see us signing a couple before/during the Euros and then maybe adding one or two more younger players post-Championships, and the majority of the outgoings happening around the time of our pre-season.

Interesting to see differing views on whether Janssen is the right striker to buy, I can definitely understand the concerns that he may be too similar to Kane and so we're not bringing in an option that can change it up but then that may not necessarily be a bad thing either. For the most part our tactics worked brilliantly last season, we pressed high and had a target man like Harry who was able to score from all different areas thanks to the movement of himself and the playmaking traits of Eriksen, Alli and Lamela. If Janssen does indeed join and his attributes are very similar to Harry's (which does seem so from what I've seen) then Poch is perhaps thinking that the tactics don't need to be switched up/ in need of a "Plan B" but just more along the lines of being strengthened. Despite another incredible year, there were times where Harry went missing or fluffed some good chances and so maybe Poch sees Janssen as the man who'll compete/ partner/ replace Harry at times should he suffer a dip while not needing to change the tactics of the side to suit a more pacey player - which we possibly have anyway in Clint if given a run at number 9.

I can't see us signing two strikers though, seeing as Shay signed a new contract a couple of months back I wouldn't be surprised if he features next season, certainly looks a cut above for U21 football now (just as KWP and CCV do) and so unless he's loaned out, I think he'll be there to do a job when needed.

Partly, it's because we don't have frightening pace with our current first team ready forward players but additionally,we've definitely been scouting Batshuayi pretty extensively and were in for Martial last summer. We know we need this player. Janssen has lots of attributes and may be a great signing but he doesn't fill the hole. If we're not going all-in to sign a really pacy goal threat then, IMHO, we're missing a big trick.

We could already have that player though in N'Jie, he's just not had the chances due to injury plus he was being deployed as a wide player when he did feature, I think he plays up top for Cameroon and according to Wiki has netted 6 in 14 which is healthy, 4 of which were in ACoN qualifying including a brace against Ivory Coast.

EDIT: Just to add, I've said a pacey player is definitely ideal, hence why for months I've said I'd like someone like Shane Long but if Janssen is the man Poch feels we need then I trust his judgement.

He may. On very limited evidence before his injury, there wasn't a whole lot of evidence of it last season. He was quick and passed more than I would expect a top striker to do and was definitely part of Lacazette's supply line at Lyon rather than being 'The Man'. He scored 8 in 43 for Lyon albeit there were sub appearances in there.

International goal scoring is a bit of an iffy area now. He has 1 against Thailand and 2 against Burkina Faso. Wayne Rooney is now England's record goalscorer by filling his boots (19 goals) against teams that didn't exist when Bobby Charlton hung up his boots:

Macedonia, Liechtenstein, Iceland (2), Estonia, Kazakhstan (2), Belarus, Kazakhstan, Andorra (2), San Marino (2), San Marino, San Marino, Lithuania, Slovenia, Slovenia, San Marino.

I don't think he had much of a chance last season in fairness, his only decent run out with the first team was against Pool when Nacer got injured early on, Clint forced a great save from Mignolet with a shot from the outside of his boot, plus he did turn and skin Kolarov for Lamela's goal against City which is something I'd love to see more of if he's deployed on the wings. The Lacazette partnership was brilliant at Lyon so if he can mirror that game to help Harry and co then I think he'll turn out to be a very handy player. Of course he could turn out to be a waste but I'd rather give him the benefit of the doubt and judge him after a proper handful of games, he was injured coming into the side I believe so just like Son, never had a pre-season with us.

Agree on the international football side of things, such a grey area to suggest a player is good or not, just that as a striker, he has found the net regularly, albeit largely against inferior opposition.

As expected since Marseilles started putting the "bugger" into the phrase "silly buggers" Batshuayi has suddenly been linked with the Chavs, which is no doubt what OM wanted in the first place.
